Pokémon’s 20th Anniversary!

Monday, February 29th, 2016

I think 2016 is the year for gaming anniversaries! We’ve already had Street Fighter II and The Legend of Zelda, and now it’s Pokémon!
I’ve picked out a few ‘mon-based stitches that I like (and believe me, it was difficult to even choose one – there are so many out there!)

arkani from the forums stayed up until about 5am to complete this Surfing Pikachu stitch in time for Pokémon Day (which was 27th Feb.)

Legend of Zelda Title Screen Blanket

Monday, February 15th, 2016

rufusdampfer from our forums crocheted this excellent Legend of Zelda title screen blanket!

rufus said, “I’ve worked on this crochet project steadily for around 2 hours a day for the past 4 months. Netflix sometimes demands some distraction so you don’t feel like you’re completely wasting your time! It has been really fun to see it forming row by row like it’s been loading for months! I did this using 1 sc per 1 pixel making it 240 rows of 256. If anyone wants to know more details about how to do this I would be happy to help. I found it quite rewarding.”

I think it’s very cool, and would love one of my own!

Awesome Polymer Clay Statues

Wednesday, February 10th, 2016

Dottie Torres, aka Gimmeswords, makes wonderful polymer clay stuff including miniatures and jewellery. But it’s her statues that are really awesome – I’ll let you see why!

Above are Bowser Jr with his Clown Car, Deku Link doing his flowercopter thing and FFIX’s Vivi. They are all hand sculpted and painted. These one-of-a-kind statues are all for sale in Dottie’s Etsy shop, but she has photos of more of her work on her website, http://dottietorres.com/ – including this awesome Light World Map from A Link to the Past!

Vulpix and Ninetales Stacking Plushies

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016

This Mage needs a dose of cute today, and since my kitten insists on being asleep and not fun at all, I turn to the internet! I found these lovely plushies and because cute must be shared, here they are!

Super cute! They’re made by BubbleRhapsodyDesign on Etsy and are designed for stacking in little heaps of adorableness. I like the Vulpix, but I think my favourite is Ninetales. I’d like to see some other stackable ‘mon too!

Mario and Modern Art Mashups

Monday, February 1st, 2016

Stitchmond is definitely one of my favourite stitchers. He’s been producing some awesome work recently, and these three mashup pieces are his latest offerings.

Mario Art by Stitchmond

Here we have “Son of Miyamoto” inspired by Magritte, “Marilyn Montoad” inspired by Warhol and “Composition with Red, P Block and Coin” inspired by Mondrian. The patterns for these pieces are on sale in Stitchmond’s Etsy shop – they are in a pack of PDFs that also contain works inspired by Lichtenstein, Da Vinci and Vancouver street artist iHeart.

Legend of Zelda Holster Bag

Friday, January 29th, 2016

Jen from Epbot (and Cake Wrecks) made a cute holster bag, in the shape of a Hylian Shield.

This one is made with Friendlyfelt, some straps, clips and a zip. Jen didn’t write a tutorial for the bag, but she describes the process well enough that anyone could give it a try!
