I apologize about the political ads (yes on california prop 8 ads) that are showing up on here. maybe its only to me because im in california, you might not be seeing them.
I am attempting to block those ads right now and I am quite unhappy with google for putting political ads on my site that have nothing at all to do with my content.
Let me also make it very clear that I am voting NO on 8 tomorrow. I (and many other san franciscans) feel quite strongly about this proposition, and it is the main reason I’m voting tomorrow.
I dont want to use this to blog to talk politics, but I feel I have to respond to those ads on my site.
edit: you’ll notice we’re now ad free. and we will stay that way for awhile. I do not currently feel like making money for google after that little stunt they pulled. we’ll see…as long as 8 fails I’ll probably go back, otherwise I might move on to a different ad company.

SO glad you blocked them, then. The idea that anyone could be voting for this, well, attempt at legalized hate, is just….shocking.

I only hope that the rest of California votes with you (and me!) tomorrow: NO on Prop 8!
I’ve seen others with similar complaints about this (specifically PVP Online, a webcomic I read). Hopefully it’s some mistake in google adsense and it will, well, come to its senses.

Kinda weird that google would even run that ad since their official stance is against the prop (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/our-position-on-californias-no-on-8.html).
But I guess they’re just as money-hungry as most other people.
Anyway, I sincerely hope this proposition fail. You Californians have my Swedish support!

I’ve seen this same thing come up on another site as well, (questionablecontent.net) and something makes me think google got a bit hosed on it as well. It seems more like smarmy pro-8-ers being sneaky than the company who’s motto is “don’t be evil” but that’s just my opinion.

Yeah, the group behind that (they did it in all states where this was on the ballot) really got into adsense and lied about what their purpose was – it came up on the ikeafans site as well and made people really mad. The moderators there had explicitly said no to any political advertising, so they’re all very pissed off.
