I also like the idea mentioned about dying a piece of white fabric blue so the water doesn't take so long. However, I've never dyed a piece of aida cloth before. I wouldn't know where to start... What brand and color of dye would I need? Where would I find it? How do I go about dying it? Any tips would be very much appreciated!!
Thanks!

It takes a bit of time, but it worked out well the last time i did it. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2269&st=0&sk=t&sd=a ... p&start=77

I used a packet of Tulip - Aqua powder and just followed the instructions on the packet. Used a plastic paint bucket and stirred the hot water/dye with a big metal cooking spoon. It smells pretty bad, but I just got in front of the TV and stirred for however long it said. I then rinsed it in cold water in the sink and let it drip dry in the garage.

Tulip dye for the win. Their instructions are idiot proof, read: I can do it iny gram's kitchen. Rit also makes a dye in teal but I don't think it works as well. Also, don't forget to fray check or baste or overcast stitch or whatever you do to the material BEFORE you dye it. Very important! Otherwise the stirring will wreak havoc on your edges.

Yay for Tulip dye!

Did it come out the right color for the water? It wasn't too light? Looking at the color of the fabric from FunkyMonkey's pictures from when she dyed hers for the Mario Through The Ages stitch and the color of the water in the picture, it seems like the water is much darker. Though maybe it's just my horrible color perception, haha.

Also, purely out of curiosity, is there a way for me to print the patterns that will put less stitches on the page (thus, making them bigger on each page)? I have messed with a bunch of settings but haven't been able to figure out a way, yet. I have tried "zooming" the PDF and then printing and I've tried changing my printer settings to landscape...neither worked. Otherwise it's really hard for me to see the symbols clearly without the squares being bigger...

I don't print my patterns, I use a laptop and zoom the pdf's in so I prefer to have fewer page turns. I can make a new pdf with a bigger grid if you prefer; let me know which map(s) you want.

Also, I intended the dye to look like sky for the Epic Mario, but I decided it will actually look fine as the water for this one. In person, it's very bright, so i don't think how dark/light it is would make it look bad.

I would appreciate the main map, and the mini maps (not the title screen or title text, though, those came out nice and big!) if you wouldn't mind! I would very much appreciate it - as I'm still learning my way around PC Stitch and KG Chart...

I'm sure the dying will look just fine for the water! I'm excited to see how it all turns out for everyone!

And thank you!! :D

The dye does turn out a different color than the actual video game, but when faced with the choice between slightly-off dye and a bajillion stitches, I chose to dye. Since I'm the only one in my household that would notice the difference I figure what the hey. Everyone else will just be impressed that I bothered to do this project at all.

Otherwise, perhaps try to double dye... use a small piece of waste material and dye it the teal and then maybe over dye with the navy? I'm working this out in my head as I type... maybe the other way around? I'll have to play with it. No matter what color I turn fabric I'll use it eventually... next day off of work I'll have to try this double dye thing and get back to you.

OK, here are the larger maps. Let me know if they're still too small to print clearly and I can make them bigger.

This is suck an awesome project! Thank you funkymonkey for posting the main map and all your minis! Can't wait to get started. My bf is going to be one lucky birthday boy, even if it's only half finished by then, lol. :)
