Well tonight I picked up a nice 24 qt pot with burner (aka, a turkey fryer) and Friday I'm going to pick up the brewing kit and my first ingredient kit! I'm so excited. I also got a book from the library and have started reading up on different styles of beer and trying those style as well (lots of yumminess!).
I'm still kind of going back and forth on whether I want to start with a German Light, Oktoberfest, Hefeweizen or Porter, but I think I'm going to start with the German Light since it should be an easy one to begin with and should also be an easier one to drink.
As I'm typing though, I'm sitting here drinking an "Anchor Steam" which I learned falls under the California Common category, and it really isn't that bad! Have a Hefeweizen in the fridge waiting for me to sample it later!

Re: Homebrew
Ok, so here's an update. I got my equipment and first ingredient kit last Friday. I decided to start with a Bavarian Hefeweizen since I tried one the night before and thought it was very tasty.
I finally found the time to brew tonight (while making a pot of chili right beside it) and now I am waiting for the wort to cool down enough so that I can pitch the yeast.
I'm a little worried that I didn't sanitize enough, but with the first step I realized that there really isn't much to sanitize. I didn't worry about the stuff going into the boil since boiling sanitizes all that stuff, and then all that was left was the fermenting bucket and the air lock. Even then, the air lock isn't necessarily an item that "must" be sanitized, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
Now in a week or two, when it comes time to bottle, I think I'll probably feel like I'll never get everything sanitized with all the bottles and everything else that will need to be done!

Re: Homebrew
Sorry for no updates, but I've been too busy drinking and crafting, lol.
My first batch turned out wonderfully! Between me drinking it and giving some to friends and such, I've already gone through half of it (the batch made 48 bottles). Now I'm trying to decide what I want to brew next!
