I use a craft storage container with the little pull out drawers. I sort the floss by color not number so I can easily see if in reality a slight different shade would work better, also I'll go nuts if I have to rework the boxes because I needed to get 3 new colors in a row and they didn't fit into the boxes already set aside for that number range

I use an Excel spreadsheet to mark what bin each color is in since I don't have a smartphone. I think I'm going to print out said chart so I can access it easier though and tape it to the top or side of the box.

I just ordered one of the cotton floss thingies from sewandso. They do ship to America. Somewhat expensive, but I think it'll be worth it. For me, it was about $31 after shipping and all that.

I saw this post over on Craftster one day and I've always wanted to chart my colour out like that: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=151480.0
However, I don't get that much free time, or have that many floss colours just yet. So I made an excel spreadsheet instead and just used the colour samples.

My thread is on bobbins in a DMC case, in small ziploc bags in a shoe box, and in a giant ball in a plastic bag. I'm not that great at organization...But I have a spreadsheet! So at least I know what is what.

When looking for a cheap easy way to keep my skeins easy to find and tidy I discovered that VHS tape cases are the perfect size for holding skeins ( see photo ), and you can turn the sleeves inside out and write the number ranges on them along the spine. Allowing you to keep all your skeins in a order and stop them from tangling up each other. Most oldish furniture has shelfs designed to hold them, and if you don't have any you can buy them from charity shops for about 50p

I always print my patterns out because I like to take my projects with me instead of sitting in front of my computer to stitch. I keep them in plastic sleeves in a binder that I have separated by theme (Mario, Portal, Zelda, etc...). My thread is all wound on plastic bobbins, numbered, and in numerical order in the clear plastic divided cases. Most of my odds and ends, like small scraps of fabric or threads are in small plastic baggies in a little organizer caboodle. I am 100% type-A personality and everything has to be organized, labeled, and easy to grab. I could probably grab everything I would need for a project while wearing a blindfold. I do procrastinate on getting projects washed, ironed, and framed, but that's because I'm VERY picky when it comes to the framing and it takes me a while to find the perfect frame.

I'm pretty standard in my floss organization. I have my floss on bobbins in numerical order in a small floss box. I do have a spreadsheet on my computer that I use to keep track of what I have and how much I have. It has helped me quite a bit when planning projects, that way I don't have to pull out and go through all the floss.
Also, I keep patterns in plastic sheet protectors. I used to keep them in folders, but I started accumulating too many. I decided to use a 3-ring binder with the sheet protectors. (My Oregon Trail covered binder (from last August's challenge) is PERFECT for this).
