Yeah, I have used that a lot in the past! It works great for me when I've got a real complicated pattern with similar colours (like my charity squares) but I find I don't need it for simpler thingsIwan wrote:The highlight function from PCStitch helps too sometimes.

I couldn't possibly stitch from the computer screen. It would kill my eyes! My boyfriend keeps telling me I need glasses for cross stitching, he'd just nag worse if I was looking at a screen too! Plus I like being able to hold the pattern and having a solid thing to work from, much nicer.

Re: Everything's getting a bit scattered
Well, at the risk of being called OCD or crazy, Here's how my mum and I have our cross stitch supply area set up.
I usually just pick out what I need when I'm working on a project, if I need more I go out and buy extra and put the remainder back in the box. We use a checklist and once a year when this really keen local shop has their superbowl sunday sale, we stock up on anything were missing/ new colors.
All our extra pieces we keep in a small box. We just started this a few months ago because we were running out of room in the big shelf thing and taking out the pieces really helped.
Now, I know someone mentioned about not being able to hand pick colors because everything is in number order. This is what I use. now, It must be from the 80s or something, because my mom claims she bought this when she first started cross stitching when she was preggers with me and I've never seen one for sale. If anyone knows where I can get one, a replacement or one with updated colors I will marry you right now.
I hope this helps, Honestly 80% of this is my mom being a crazy organizer, I could never keep up with this by myself, If it was up to me, It would probably all be in a lump in the bottom of a shopping bag.
I'll add the PDF of the shopping list we used this year too ^^

Thanks! <3 I like it alot too, I just don't know what they are, or were originally made for, I doubt it was sewing notions. =(PixelPockets wrote:Those are awesome!!!Digitlanalog wrote:Well, at the risk of being called OCD or crazy, Here's how my mum and I have our cross stitch supply area set up.

Re: Everything's getting a bit scattered
I just started cross stitching very recently. I'm still only up to working on bookmarks and projects like that. My grandma used to stitch like a pro. We have pieces at my parent's place that are genuine works of art. She passed away about ten years ago. When I started working on my cross stitch pieces, I inherited all the remnants of my Grandma's hobby.
All of this is just to say that I am completely envious of anyone with an organization system, as going through the tangled mess that was my grandma's thread is driving me crazy. There's about six different brands, none of which are DMC, and some of which don't show up on any conversion charts I've found. I have picked up some cardboard bobbins and organization boxes and I think I may be slowly making a little bit of progress. Hopefully at some point I get become as organized as Digitlanalog!

Digit... so completely jelly of your bins! I would kill for those!
I love having mine on bobbins in numeric DMC order. For those saying that it would be hard to keep track of, they have an app for that
But really, I have a shopping list app that I select the floss I need, and after I buy it, I simply input it and how many skeins I have. After I finish off a skein, I just delete it off.
Also, for current projects I use the metal rings for all floss on small projects, and I have an extra container for larger ones.
I love this discussion... it gets me excited about organizing!

I have my thread in clear plastic boxes. They are put on bobbins and they are in numbered order. There are 5 boxes full of thread. I have some more thread that is in small boxes. Each small box has one numbered thread in it. They are in three postal shipping boxes. I got that thread in a deep big container. I got it at a yard sale.

LOL Thanks I think?! ^^ But like I said, that's mostly my mom being very organized, however I did not inherit those skills, I just have to pretend to keep up.Ally wrote:Digitlanalog...that is NUTS! Granted, probably very easy to manage, but...WOW!
