Re: More Forum Updates!
ok found the problem, I had the custom field set to admin only, so that only I could change it...otherwise everyone could change themselves to bloggers/winners/pattern thiefs...that was good.
problem was it also only allowed me to see it.
looking for a fix now...

Re: More Forum Updates!
can you see them now??
(i see them when not logged in at all, so hopefully that is a good sign)
im sure it works now, problem is I had to block out all custom fields...which means the new fields like 'fav game' etc is now blocked out too. gotta find a work around for that too...that'll be next on my list of things to fix. atleast the images should appear for everyone now??

Re: More Forum Updates!
I removed the top banner ads from the forum site...
why? because they're ugly and they annoy me. pennies really just aren't worth annoyance...I realized that if I was walking down the street and someone offered me 15 cents to stop for a minute and be annoyed by them, I wouldn't stop. so if its annoying me every day, and the other 100s of people who visit, and as a collective group (by group I mean me) we earn a few cents? nah, that's not even worth it in the slightest.
enjoy! you now have less annoying things flashing at you everyday!

Re: More Forum Updates!
I apologize for the continued spam...especially the pron this time.
user accounts now also require email activation...
visual confirmation is fuzzier to make it harder...
we still have visual confirmation to prevent bots...other than this new required activation im not sure what else to do, I'd rather not have to personally activate each account, and to be honest I'm not sure if you could tell a spammer from a non spammer like that anyway.
problem is we're not getting hit by bots, I think we're getting hit by actual people who bother to sign up. which will be tougher to stop.
we'll see...

Re: More Forum Updates!
-changed the ads around, added in a project wonderful banner, and removed the "in the first post of a topic" ad.
I'm always trying to irk out a few cents here and there on the sites to pay for hosting, improvements, and beer...BUT, I absolutely never want to let the ads ever get to the point of annoyance. I try to skirt that line of making money vs. annoying people to maximize money and minimize annoyance. PLEASE
I beg of you let me know if you ever think it gets to that point...and, by that point I mean the point where its just too much...

Re: More Forum Updates!
Thanks for pulling the ad off of the first post. I found it to be a tad annoying, particularly when that weight loss banner was making the rounds.
Well, less annoying than distracting as it seemed on first glance to be a part of the post content. But I do appreciate not seeing it there just the same.
Also, this has absolutely nothing to do with this site, per se, but the current banner is the Craftster online store and man does it peeve me that they only stock girly shirts. I suppose it only makes sense, as the Craftster community is overwhelmingly female, but I really would like to get one.

Re: More Forum Updates!
I never noticed that. thats totally annoying. I dig the skull and cross bones ones...but a fitted ladies tee would look quite odd on me. I'm surprised they don't stock others, it can't be that expensive to have an option. bummer.benjibot wrote: man does it peeve me that they only stock girly shirts. at first I was kinda against how it shows how much I make a day on the ads...but, I kinda like the transparency for people. project wonderful is way better than google.
