ok between us me and my younger brother own : Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Crystal x2 & Diamond. My favourite is probably Blue or Silver as these are the only 2 I ever bothered to complete.

Spin off games we have include : Pinball (GB), Card Game (GB), Snap (N64) & Stadium 1&2 (N64). there may be more but these are the only ones I remember playing. I agree that the only interesting thing about the stadium games were the mini games

I preferred Silver tbh. I also have Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium for N64... Snap is cute and good fun

Johloh: I too would be interested in hearing where you've gotten. Or if you've done what I do about a month after I try picking up a pokemon game: forget about it entirely for a year...

that's exactly what I did...I just can't get into it. no matter what I do. I tried...I think I played for like an hour then stopped.

As personal preference, I would play Crystal. Not too overwhelming, but you still have the classic feel of the original Pokemon. You also get a great story. I just got finished playing Soul Silver (DS), and I am very happy with how it plays. It just depends on what you want in a video game.

Get Blue (or Red) for Gameboy.
You can either play it on an original Gameboy, Gameboy color or get a Gameboy player for SNES.

Yeah, thegameboy player for snes is super handy
