Seeing these WIP shots makes me appreciate how well-crafted the SMW overworld map really is. The planks on the bridge alone are great, let alone the set-piece bits like the Star World map or the runup to Bowser's castle. The early days of the SNES are still my favorite era of game art.

The dyed blue fabric is the way I'd want to tackle this project. Seriously, if I could purchase some, I'd be all over stitching this map.

For those interested, added the hand-dyed blue fabric to my Etsy store:

Love all of the outlining...I'm not that brave! :P

Haha thanks, I tried to! Been power watching through Star Trek Voyager and DS9 with the husband.

Doing the outlining is so nice; you get to see progress so quickly. I'm just using a 6 in hoop, so I have to move it all the time. I'm afraid it is going to spoil me, seeing so much progress so quickly. When I switch to color filling, it will seem to take forevverrrr. At least, I won't have to check the pattern and triple check everything as much!
