Decide which version of the pattern that you'd like to do. The colors on the original are slightly different from FunkyMonkey's, so if you like the idea of also doing the mini maps, then be careful to stick with those maps throughout the entire process. If you like the original, and plan to do the world map as a stand-alone piece, then you can do that one. I did a small test swatch of each before I made my decision, and they're both stunning. I wanted to do the mini maps also, so I went with the newer version.
There is a LOT of blue ocean. If you're the type that goes crazy over endless amounts of color, then it might be good to look through the thread and see who dyed their fabric that blue. I can't remember who did it, or where it is exactly, but I know it's in there somewhere! There are days and days and days of blue.
That's really the only thing that I can think of. I really love working on this piece, though I've had to take a break the last few months (ornaments. lots of ornaments.
Lol).
Also, make sure your fabric has plenty of extra space on each side, just in case you make a good sized counting error. My biggest fear for this one was finding out that I couldn't fit everything on the fabric, even though I calculated everything over and over again. I made four people check my math, and still left more than 3" each side for extra.
Have fun! This piece is amazing, and you'll be so glad that you started.
