Kareesh's Random Projects

Post by Kareesh »

I've been toying with the idea of my own Etsy shop for several years now, and I've finally started on the path of getting one opened. I've been designing a few patterns and here's the first one I've completed and stitched up. :)

Better pictures will be taken for the shop, but I was just too excited not to share them right away. :D

They're so cute!

And bonus: Owls are really popular so you should be able to sell them on Etsy with relative ease.

Thank you. :)

For now I'm going to be just selling patterns, as I don't have a ton of time to devote to making completed pieces, but it's my goal to sell completed ones as well, perhaps once I get my charity squares and some other things completed.

I saw this project as a knitting project, but I thought I could do something like this as a cross stitching project. You choose colors for the high temperature for each day, and then knit (or stitch) a line to represent that day. I didn't start this at the beginning of the year, so I have some catching up to do. I'm hoping to get one month done a day until I'm caught up. Here's my progress so far:

I'm going to stitch up a key for this as well. My grandiose plan is to hopefully enter it into our state fair craft show next year. It'll be my first time entering anything in any sort of show (besides what we had to do in school for art class)

i adore this idea! Maybe next year since its finally warm out, and i don't want to think about the -50 days of January atm.

*edit*

after thinking about it - i would love to see this as a year long challenge or stitch along at some point, it would be very cool to see scarves/stitches from all over the world, especially places that have very different seasons/weather then mine.

I had the same thought. I figured it was too late to do something like this now, but perhaps start next year. Everyone's would be different 'cause you could choose your own color scheme on top of different places have different temperatures. :)

EDIT: Here's what I have so far. Almost caught up. :)

Really cool project!!! Id personally have to keep track of the temps over a month then stitch. dont think Id ever keep up with stitching that one line every day. The scientist in me must ask, How did you go about selecting your colors? Do you have a scale of temps per color or one for each degree? Is it highs or lows for the day or just a general feeling. Really neat though! a year in color! Man I keep thinking of things Id add. Like one stitch at the end to indicate precipitation

I selected the colors loosely based off the original. Here's a list of them, with the temperatures (listed in Farenheit):

100-105+ - 819
94-99 - 957
88-93 - 3350
82-87 - 666
76-81 - 971
70-75 - 972
64-69 - 307
58-63 - 445
46-51 - 703
40-45 - 699
34-39 - 991
28-33 - 996
22-27 - 995
16-21 - 796
10-15 - 930
4-9 - 318
-8-3 - 762
-7- -12 - 3865

As for which temperature I use, it's the high for the day. I've heard of people wanting to do something for rain/snow, but I decided to keep it simple, for the first year at least. My mom came up with the idea of doing something like this for the first year of my daughter's life, so I may have to do that as well. :)
