Epic 3D Pokemon Cave Cross Stitch

Title: Pokemon Cave
Date Completed: June 2013
Design: Lord Libidan
Video Game: Pokemon
This has been in the planning for more than a year before I started, and took almost 6 months to complete.
The reason it took so long is simply the challenge of having such a piece come out at you on plastic caves, on a 45 degree angle (plastic canvas means you can only use 90 or 0/180 degrees). However, after giving up on the project a total of three times, I finally worked out a way to do it.
Its based upon a series of works by the painter John Wilson after I saw a few of his pieces in a local art store. The effect should be that the cave looks to go inwards, and when you move your head (or the camera), the cave goes with it, forcing perspective, whilst all the time, it comes out at you.

OH MY GOSH WOW! Until I got to the bottom pic where it shows it standing up, I thought it was a hallway from the first pic and the video also made me think that too, I had no idea it was kind of like a pyramid. It looks AWESOME! Well done on working it out and not giving up! :clapping: :clapping:

*EDIT*

Ok, After looking at it again, I realized it is a hallway... the last pic just shows the 3d of it... It is still AWESOME!

Glad you stuck with it and figured it out! I think perspective stuff was one of my favorite parts or taking art in high school.

Thats awesome! Never would've imagined doing that with plastic canvas. Before reading your description and seeing the pic below it, i could've sworn that that was stitched on a flat piece of canvas or Aida or something. Keep up the good work.

Wow! You did a really great job on this - the illusion is very effective!

That is amazing! Awesome work! I'm curious to know how you'll end up displaying it? Will you build a box or something? I would imagine it's not particularly easy to hang on the wall...lol.

LL, you've outdone yourself. I am jawdroppingly amazed by this piece. I was actually just talking to my husband about your awesome Transformers stuff. I can't wait to brag about you on the blog!!!!
