Thank you. :)

With my special project done and delivered bringing a big smile to Laura's face, time to get back to my Startropics cross-stitch still in progress. Decided to get that light blue water done, and finally reached the right edge of the pattern. Looking to get the other two shades of blue finished on that side tomorrow, then shift my work to the opposite side, aiming to get all of the water filled in by end of week, then after that I may take another short break from it before I start on the octopus, maybe do some smaller projects for a little bit. I do have me an idea to start on a super huge piece that I've been wanting to stitch since mid-last year, but I'm not sure yet as it will be by far my largest at over 20,000 stitches...I'd have to be crazy. I may chicken out and do smaller stuff instead.

5/18/2013
5:00pm-6:30pm
7:40pm-8:50pm - making some progress on the very dark royal blue on the left side but then ran into a problem with a new skein color not matching up (see notes below)

note:

5/21/2013
So while working on the left side of the water, starting on a new skein, several vertical rows into it I noticed something bad, the floss I'm currently using for the water, #820 very dark royal blue, well its not matching up completely with the previous skein of #820's that I'd used prior, in fact is a whole shade darker, and its not a trick of how the light is hitting it because I can see the difference no matter how I turn this project around, is significantly noticeable. You know, DMC is really * me off with their sometimes inaccuracies, this isn't the first time I had this problem, have had this issue before with #402, as well as with #917...*. Well, matched up other possibilities, only color close is #796 dark royal blue, but it is a little bit lighter than the #820 I started with, stitching in several rows just to be sure. No other colors could be confused because the these royal blues have a unique vibrancy to them that other dark blues don't have. I was hoping to finish up the water before taking a long break from this project, but now, I have to put this * away before I shred it. If its not a fault of DMC, perhaps its a result of certain skeins in stores being exposed too long to fluorescent lights or even sunlight, who knows, but I can say I'm getting a bit tired of worrying about whether a certain color skein will match up with that same number skein used already, makes me think it better not to work on such grand projects that will need more than a skein of each color. Anyway, that's it for now, will have to look at it again another day to determine what my course of action will be.

6/7/2013
Decided after spending some time away from this project that it'd be best just to ignore the water right now and get started on the octopus before I drive myself mad.

It's coming along beautifully! I can't really see the difference in the dye color, but I haven't gone over it with a magnifying glass or anything. :)

Thank you. :)

Still working on StarTropics, just going slow. Nearly done with the front most tentacle, will show it again once I get a bit more finished.

During my time that I spent a while away from it I did find something else to do. I have a lot of scrap material not quite big enough for those big projects that I like doing so much so decided to put them to use stitching character sprites on them, only problem is, what to do with them. They're cute, quick little projects but lack challenge therefore, well I got bored of doing them, didn't feel like there was a purpose other than to give myself something to do. Maybe I'll get back to doing some more, maybe not.

Cripes, that's a lot of mini projects.

They'd make interesting patches on a backpack, or perhaps they could be turned into cell phone charm somehow?

I love little projects like these. I enjoy doing them myself, but I also love seeing other people's. I think they're nice because even though they might not be as awe-inspiring as the huge projects some of us take on, they are sometimes more difficult because you can't hide your mistakes as easily. Great job. :)

Maybe you can get some of the mini frames? Like the ones that come in the little $2 kits. They sell the frames separately, too. Or maybe coasters? Or try to piece them together for an interesting patchwork kind of deal?

Or how about those multi frames, with a bunch of apertures in? Or...some kind of stitchy collage? That would be interesting, for sure!

Suppose I could find something to do with them. I thought of the multi-frame thing already, but like all of my projects, if ever I am able to frame them that'll be something I do sometime later down the road, maybe.

Now I feel I have made some great progress on that StarTropics project. I got all of the tentacles down closest to Mike. Yay! :)
