Re: APRIL Stitch-a-Long - Samplers
Thank you for the great compliments! I had the day off so i figured i would get something productive done. For the border all i did was google "celtic knot balckwork", or "blackwork border". I was just working off of a picture, not a pattern. Very hard on the eyes, but i should have it memorized by the end of the sampler!

I absolutely love celtic designs! I was planning a celtic knot border too, it's different to yours Samarin, I hope thats ok? If not I'm sure I can come up with something else.
I'll be leaving the border to last.

Re: APRIL Stitch-a-Long - Samplers
Wow, you guys stitch fast! Here's what I've got so far:

I'm using 18 count oatmeal aida, although it's kind of difficult to see its brownish color and speckling in the photo. Since my collection of floss is still pretty small (that's what years of mostly sticking to kits will get ya), I don't have the majority of the colors on hand, so I spent a good chunk of time looking over the original sprites and seeing what substitutions I could make. I decided to outline Toad in black like the rest, and while it's a little hard to see, I've also stitched the white, light blue, and Toad's lightest skin tone. I decided to use the same white throughout as well as the same light blue on Yoshi and Toad. I went with an entirely different skin tone for Toad to better match the sprite. I probably won't completely finish for a while since I don't have suitable colors for some of the stuff and I doubt I'll be making a trip to Michaels real soon (since I went just a few days before the pattern was posted). I'll get it as close to finished as I can this week, though.

Re: APRIL Stitch-a-Long - Samplers
Seeing all these WIPs is making me wanna stitch it as well. It looks pretty quick, so I may have to pick this one up. Just have to make sure I some fabric in stock.
With just the bands, what is the approximate finished size if it's stitched on 14 or 16 count? I think I have a piece but I just want to make sure it's big enough.

No problem at all! I wish you luck, i think i spent half the time unpicking the border since i apparently cant count in a strait line.QueenBex wrote:I absolutely love celtic designs! Re: APRIL Stitch-a-Long - Samplers
Depends on your spacing and so on, but I can tell you that one band on 14ct is about 6.42" x 1.8" and on 16 count it would be 5.625" x 1.5625 - not sure if that's helpful but there you go!Kareesh wrote:With just the bands, what is the approximate finished size if it's stitched on 14 or 16 count? Well I have my red shell done, but I'm sick so I'm not able to do anymore for now. How I am managing to stay upright is something of a mystery! All being well, I should do some more tomorrow. But best of luck to everyone doing it!

Re: APRIL Stitch-a-Long - Samplers
I sent my hubby out earlier to get me some Rit Dye for my white aida so I am going to be dying it tonight and am hoping to be ready to start tomorrow! I've never dyed anything before so I am excited to try this!!

Okay, samarin. That border is unbelievable. I was going to do some blackwork, but that is just... beautiful.
You have set the bar very high. I have finished the shell and the bananas and I've started Toad, but I don't have a photo yet. I'll get some more done tonight and take a photo in the morning.

Re: APRIL Stitch-a-Long - Samplers
So I woke up with this crazy idea this morning, and I had to try it.
So I decided for each game picked, I will make the border look like the controller of the console for the game. So for this one, I made it look like a SNES controller. I figured for the other game, I would go with the following controllers :
- Pokemon (original GB)
- Katamari Damaci (PSX/PS2/PS3 just the usual square, circle, X and triangle)
- Journey (PSX/PS2/PS3 just the usual square, circle, X and triangle)
- Dr Mario (NES)
- DDR (Something with the arrows on the DDR dance mat)
- Portal (I guess it's more of a PC game, but it's also on 360, so probably a 360 controller)
- Bubble Bobble (No clue...)
So anyway, this is my WIP shot (sorry for the quality of the pic, I'm too tired to take another one) :
I was hoping to get more done of the actual band, but it's already pass midnight and I need some sleep if I don't wanna be zombie tomorrow at work! XD Hopefully I get to finish it by Friday.
