Metroid Bass Cab

Post by bassist »

Hey guys. First post, some really impressive stuff on this page! Very inspiring.

Made this last summer, thought this would be a great place to post it!

Image

My Ampeg 4x10 bass cabinet; done with normal spraypaint. I made measurements of the grille and the sprite, popped the grille off, laid painters tape down over the whole thing, drew a grid on, carefully cut out the pixels to be painted with a razor, and sprayed away.

Actually, I still have some crappy progress shots taken with my old phone...

And finally -

On a somewhat relating note - for those interested, I'm currently doing a one-man-band death metal project based on Starcraft...

Cheers!

This is awesome... A simply concept, but it looks gorgeous. I wouldn't mind having a drybones on my speaker grills, or even on the side of the subwoofer.
Great job!

Great project! To bad my speakers have fabric mesh and not metal :)

^The cab you see above has a fabric mesh as well. So long as you're not drowning the entire thing in paint, it's not going to effect your tone at all.

Really? Cool! What kind of paint did you use? Oil- or waterbased?

Well, it was a generic all-purpose spraypaint, so I imagine probably water based? I'm not sure, honestly - I'm really not too educated on this type of thing! I just bought some spraypaint and hoped for the best!
