Help me! I tore my aida

Post by 8-bitstitch »

Hi,

I was hoping someone could suggest or help me out at all.

Today whilst walking my cross stitch bag fell on the ground and got dragged along the street It was on top of my suitcase, I noticed, but it happened for long enough to break through the bag, and my aida!! and get a tonne of things wet in the process!! I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone before but is there a way around it, without having to undo all my stitches and start again (its on a bit that will be stitched on) even if it wasn't it would be noticeable on the finished product. I hope that made sense, Ive included a picture of what the rip looks like, its 16 count to give you an idea of the size.

Thanks for any help you can give :D

Right, this I can help with (kinda).

I had a similar hole in my cloth when making a project a couple of years ago, and it was recommended to me to make a patch. Basically I cut a small square of aida, placed it over the hole, lined up the holes of the cloth and carried on stitching as normal. It turned out pretty well and was fairly strong. Also, once my stitching was completed, could not even see where the hole was!

So...I suggest getting a piece of your 16ct aida, slightly bigger than the damaged area, place it on top (lining the holes up) and cross stitch them together. Hope that makes sense!

I would have suggested that but it sounded kinda daft in my head.

another thing to try: straighten the torn bits and iron some thin fusible interfacing to the back. You can stitch through the interfacing.
