This forum supports attachments, which is great because we don't have to worry about someone posting an image and having it break due to a lapse in domain upkeep. Keep on using that if you're comfortable (but please, resize your photos before you upload them... 800px wide or less is pretty much a considerate standard).
However, if you've got a Flickr account (and if you take photos, why the hell don't you?) and you've already uploaded your shots there you might as well just embed your Flickr photos here. As a plus, you can embed a whole range of sizes from 75x75px thumbnails to the original size. Nifty!
Here's the stumbling block: This (and many other) forum uses BBCode to mark up posts. Now, I never did understand why BBCode was necessary as it's no simpler than HTML, but it's pretty well established so might as well get used to it. Flickr gives you the code to embed photos, but it's in HTML. But, there are some helpful tools:
First, note the "ALL SIZES" link atop the Flickr page. Take a look at my Dogcow for an example. It has a little magnifying glass on it. Clicking that link brings you to the photo download page (provided it has been allowed for this account) which gives you several options from the tiny square to the useful medium all the way to the likely ginormous original. See the little box that says "Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage:" below the chosen size? Make a note of that.
FLickr BBCode Tool: This takes the code you've copied from the box on the photo download page and turns it into a BBCode image wrapped in a link. It only does one at a time, but that might be all you need.
I'll pause here and mention that Flickr would really prefer that you link back to the photos page on Flickr when you post it elsewhere. In fact, it's in the Community Guidelines. Nobody is going to stop you, but it's nice to follow the guidelines. Besides, you want people to comment on your Flickr page don't you? Okay...
Flickr to BBCode by Mikhail Kozlov is a bit more robust. You enter a username (likely your own) and it grabs all of your photo sets. You can dump a selection by clicking on individual photos, or the entire set by clicking "Dump all." Once you've selected an image or images you want to check the box to the right of "Link to the page on PicasaWeb" (it looks like some code was reused from a similar tool for Picasa and not changed) and then uncheck the box to the right of "Put quotation marks around URL." If you don't do the latter it won't work at all. BBCode hates quotation marks.
Also, if you happen to use Picasa there's an identical tool to convert Picasa to BBCode.

This is a really helpful post, but it doesn't really work for me..
I was going to fix all of my previous posts by linking back to Flickr but in the previews I get something like this:

Oh, I forgot to mention two things:
Both of the Flickr tools turn the title of the photo into a title wrapped in bold tags. You can leave that in or take it out as you wish.
The whole thing needs to be one line on phpBB. So if you had taken that and deleted the line break between the set of brackets after the url tag and before the img tag it'd work fine.
