There is one hell of a bad Loop in The Solitude College quest, Tending to the Flames.

Where Viarmo sends you out on a quest and then you come back and he appoints you as a bard. You have to go to some festival and watch the burning of the 'King'.

So.. Viargo keeps lighting this thing on fire and ... doesn't stop. I've tried reloading old save files, like I've read online to do, but do any of you know a better idea? I want to finish the quest...

That shouldn't happen. If I was you, I'd reload a file and NOT finish the quest yet, leave it for later if possible.
Other than that, I really couldn't say - sorry!

That shouldn't happen. If I was you, I'd reload a file and NOT finish the quest yet, leave it for later if possible.
Other than that, I really couldn't say - sorry!

It's really quite annoying. Maybe I should try going to do something else, and coming back. They say that won't work, but.. D;

Try waiting a month. I don't mean in real life, I mean when you do that thing where you wait and you pick a timeframe in the game... not sure if that'd mess this quest up but my husband was having issues with skyrim glitching a lot yesterday and so he read online to try that and it fixed it for a few hours....

If you are on a PC there should be a command line way to fix this... check http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Tending_the_Flames or the Game FAQs message board.
If on a PS3/260 - I feel your pain.
The game has a number of VERY broken quests. I have one from the Bards (the fetch the instruments quests) and after I complete them the items are still in my inventory and I can't drop them...
