Re: Pattern's back
I try to keep my backs as neat as possible, also. I tend to do one stitch at a time, though, instead of the full rows one way and then back, so my backs have a diagonal component as well as the vertical lines. Yes, uses more floss, but I also find that I need a hoop less often because it's easier to maintain even tension.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles with hoop marks, though! Blasted body oils...

Re: Pattern's back
Thank you Susanne for the comliment
I have been doing this for about 16 years and when I started I was awful!
But over the years I have gotten better
As I said in my original comment that it is about the enjoyment of it rather than the worry about the back, once it is framed then that is not the thing people will see
At the end of the day it is whaterer works for you

I guess you're right. But I did find that a neater back often means that the piece is flatter, which makes it easier to frame IMO

Re: Pattern's back
Know this thread is a bit old, but I'm quite proud of this piece:

I mean I keep the backs of all my pieces neat and orderly, but this one just looks really orderly. Most likely due to the massive blocks of colour.

Re: Pattern's back
Figured I'd throw one of mine up here, it's certainly not neat, but I tended to jump around because I didn't want to cut the floss and start over somewhere else. And I've probably got a lot more dangling off than I need, but since noone sees it in the frame anyways, it's not really worth my time to go through and cut them all.

Re: Pattern's back
Yeah...I don't think I'll be posting my backs here anytime soon. I'm a little ashamed. But at the same time, I usually don't care! The stitching gets put in a frame and no one ever sees it anyway. What's the point on working so much harder to keep a back neat when no one will really see it?
