I also collect mine up but I get rid of them now and then.
Actually, and I forget which blogger does it (not enough caffeine this morning!) but there's a blog thing called the TUSAL where they collect up the thread scraps from their current projects, put them in a container and post a photo on their blogs periodically!

That's exactly what I thought of when I saw this! She hasn't been around lately, but I think you're thinking of riotpatch. And I think TUSAL stands for "totally useless stich a long."
