DragonBox.de dragon mascot plush

Post by LPSM »

This evening, I completed the most complicated plush that I've ever designed and made. It's a toy version of the cute little dragon mascot of DragonBox.de, which is an online retro-gaming gear shop run by a friend of mine from Germany - the dragon is a gift for him.

I had one image to work from...

... And the above is it.

Here's the dragon in plush form;

Due to how fiddly and completely machine-unfriendly his design turned out to be, he is 100% hand-sewn. I'm very pleased with how he's come out - especially the little touches like his felt claws (he even has tiny little dew-claws on his heels), and the fingers and toes which were separated with painstaking stitching.

The dragon will be accompanied on his journey to Germany by a lemming based on my usual design, which I'll begin working on tomorrow or thereabouts. Right now, though, I'm off to rest my very sore fingers and thumbs!

First of all dew claws are the best claws, secondly this is amazing. Not just your craftsmenship but also your ability to capture the "feeling" of the sprite.

Thanks very much, guys! :D

The dragon's lemming buddy will be finished soon, too. Then I'll be able to work on a couple of non-Lemmings projects for a bit before getting back to more of those again, haha.

That is amazing, he is so cute! How do you even begin to make a pattern for something like this? All I've ever done was a plush Kirby, which is basically just a ball with arms and legs, and even that I found very challenging.

Thankyou very much. :)

I honestly couldn't describe it - I can just look at a drawing, imagine how it'll look in three dimensions, and then start sketching out the panels necessary to make it. It's good if I have access to multiple pieces of artwork for reference, but just one drawing and, if necessary, some additional written details will do (as was the case with this dragon).

Sometimes I have to tweak the patterns here and there, and other times I don't. I'm working on something at the moment that needed only one tweak, even - that one's now halfway finished already.
