My Mario latch-hook

Post by CraftySasha »

I have been working hard on my latest Mario latch-hook and I finally finished it (well, except for the edges, which almost doesn't count). It turned out so awesome, that I just had to share the finished product with everyone! I am so so so happy with how it turned out.
I love this site! I never would have been able to create this without it and all of you!

I stuck the gold ruler at the bottom to give everyone an idea of how big this thing is.

Looks great! And fluffy! :D
I've always wanted to try latch hooking but never seem to get around to it - is it easy to pick up?

This one took me altogether about a couple months to make. I did take a few weeks off from working on it, so I don't remember exactly how long it was.

Latch-hook is very easy to learn and get the hang of. If you are wanting to learn how, I would recommend first picking up one of the small kits they have available at craft stores. Heck, even Wal-Mart may have a few kits available still. Once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty quick and it's fun!
It is quite fluffy! As the weather got warmer, I had to drive to finish it before it got too hot because having this big thing on your lap can get hot.

Looks great!

Where do you get your supplies from? I never see the cut yarn at my local craft store, but I may be blind. Do you buy pre-cut?
Current Project(s): How much time do you have? LOL

For this one, I cut most of the yarn myself. I bought skeins of normal Red Heart yarn for the main colors (white, black, red, light grey, and dark grey). I bought pre-cut for the other colors that I didn't need much of (green, gold, oatmeal, dark brown). The pre-cut yarn is a little thicker as it is more of a rug yarn, but, it really isn't even noticeable.

Using the length of the pre-cut yarn, I got a board from my garage and put two nails about the same length apart and wound the yarn around them. Then I just clipped each end. This way I could get a handful of cut yarn at a time. It went pretty quick.

CraftySasha- can you make something like this into a rug? I would love to have a fuzzy Mario bathroom mat!

Fantastic! I thought about doing this myself, but I wasn't sure how it would come out. Good to know. Great job! :nod
