Backstitching comparison

Well, I was looking to experiment with backstitching on my work. For the outlining pixels, I couldn't get a grey quite as dark as I wanted, but black was too dark. So I tried out some black back-stitching in 1 strand around the edge. I just tried it out on the chicken first. I think it looks quite good and makes it stand out against the background quite well. What do you think?

Here are the comparison pictures:

I was thinking of backstitching around the eyes too.. hmm..

Here is a zoomed out pic to show the chicken vs the other non-outlined sprites.

Any and all opinions mightily welcomed! Thanks for looking! :)

I have to admit, at first I was going to suggest against it. I've never been a fan of back stitching if you have a background, but after seeing the results, I definitely think you should continue with the rest of them...

I think it looks good with the backstitching. It makes it pop out a little bit more. I am the opposite of everyone else I actually love to back-stitch. haha

I agree, I think in this case the backstitching makes it pop out against the background. It looks good - and I'd probably do the rest of them as well.

Yay, well now that I have the blessing of the sprite stitch community I don't have any choice BUT to do it :D

I'm still wondering if i should do around the eyes as well. Hmm.....I may have to test that too!
