What would be easiest? x_X;

Post by DuckyBelkins »

I really really want to make this for my friend:

Image

I'm really lazy so I want to know what you guys think would be easiest.

Should I work on a black (or dark blue) background and use 3-4 threads per stitch?

Or should I work on a white blackground and fill in the background with a dark blue or black thread?

If I use the dark background, would I cross stitch the areas that are part of the image but are the same color as the background? (Like the frying pan.)

Thanks guys!

I would probably use a dark background but definitely stitch in the areas of the image that are the same colour.

How do I figure out what color thread will best match the background? How many threads should I use to make sure the dark background doesn't shine through the stitching? (Sorry for all the questions XD)

What count of fabric are you using? If you're using a navy blue fabric you might just have to colour match it at the store.

I think the only count that I can get (at my local store) is 14 count, but if they have anything larger (I believe I've heard of 18 and 22 count?) I'd rather use that. This image is going to be really big on 14 count.

I've never used anything over a 14 count so I may leave that question to the experts who have used 18 or 22 ct before.

Okay :) Well if I do end up using 14 count (which is likely) how many threads would you suggest I use?

Typically you only need to use 2 strands, but it's really up to you how you want the image to turn out. You could test a swatch of the fabric with the different amounts of thread and see which you prefer.
I'm back! ATK and all that foo..
Please PM Me if you have a Q on a post I made.

Well, the reason why I'm asking is because I've seen another thread where the person was talking about the background shining through. That would be very ugly on this piece.

I wanted opinions from people who have done the work on dark background before because tomorrow I am leaving for Montana and won't be able to buy supplies for a month. So I need to know asap. :) I don't have time to test it.

My Fuu pillow (check deviantart. I can't access it from work, so I can't link it right now) was done on a dark blue with 2 threads, and it doesn't shine through at all. But it's mostly greens. There are light greens, though.

Also, Felicia was done on black aida. That had a lot of white, so I used 3 threads to get more coverage.
