... but has anyone found a collection of sprites from Link's Awakening online that are not from the DX version? All I seem to be able to find are the color sprites and I really want the black & white (or black & green) ones.

I found a load of boss and enemy sprites on Zelda Legends. There are some screenshots on GameFAQs, but there are JPEGS so they are only really good as a guide. Massive map of Koholint on VGMaps and more maps of the dungeons here.

I can probably use some of the screenshots to draw Link at any rate. I've been drawing simple patterns off of crappy JPEGs lately anyway—lots of DS games don't have clean screenshots for obvious reasons. Or to compare the colors. I mean it should be fairly simple to reduce the colors. I'm kind of at a loss as to why nobody has done the original B&W sprites.

If you use Google Image's advanced search options and isolate your terms to only include BMPs that might help. I do it when I need PNGs.
