JULY Challenge - let's choose a theme!

Post by blackmageheart »

Want to get this out of the way now! Normal service being resumed - you get to choose your theme again. (Bet you're all relieved about that! :P)

Now, this challenge will be for the month of July only, and we want a new and interesting theme - one that'll get you all creating awesome and epic stuff.

So, let's have your ideas! :D

Maybe best non-cross stitch craft? Might encourage those who only do cross stitch to add another weapon to their arsenal!
Current Projects: Crocheting stuff, writing letters, cross stitching stuff oh, and making beer!

Well, I always say that all crafts are welcome. I don't want to exclude anybody in any way - that includes people who can only cross stitch! But perhaps there is a way we could get other crafts into challenges...maybe mixed crafts...or something. *brain went dead*

Some of the previous theme ideas I like:

One-game challenge (same game for everybody!)
Easter eggs (the kind hidden in games, no the kind you dye :P ), whether really present in a game or "faked" for our project

I'd also propose genre swap - portraying a game in a different style of play than it normally appears. Final Fantasy as a sidescroller; a Mario fighting game...
Mostly hibernating here. Find me on Twitter @rmdcade.

How about something that excludes the bigger game franchises? Like not allowing references to Mario, LoZ, Pokemon or whatever others and doing something based around lesser known games. It might get people into other less 'mainstream' (I hate using that word!) games.

I have a lot of friends having babies this month and it seems everywhere I turn there are baby things being made.

What about "gifts for baby"? That would be all encompassing and a lot of us could make things we could use as gifts for the future!

Actually, I had this idea a while back, but didn't say anything. But I thought it was a little restrictive the way you said it. So how about stitching a game the way you think it should have been. It could be like RMDC said where we totally redesign it, but also could be an improvement on it, so like mario but you could capture enemies like pokemon (terrible example, I know, but I don't want to give away my idea). :P
I'm actually stitching something currently which is shockingly similar to this...

Or how about funny takes on video game characters? Like pacman portrait as a druggy. I like that idea too. In fact I already have ideas forming.

Maybe 3 dimensional projects? Like items that are free standing?

Maybe I'm just hungry but I've been thinking lately about food based projects, so perhaps a food/Game themed challenge.
For example,Stitching a LoZ themed piece of sushi, Real life potion bottles, in game food as oil painted still lifes or maybe taking a food item and cooking it up! (cake cake cake cake!)
I'm probably explaining this very poorly but it makes sense in my head and could be done with any medium really! Even real food! :D (I know some of you guys are serious bakers)
