Is it a common practice to mark your fabric in blocks like that? I've never stitched a pattern using marked fabric before, this is the first place I've ever seen that. But I guess it works?
It is a water soluble ink (washes out/dissolves with water). I use it mostly to mark things like the center of the fabric, stitches I missed or want to skip and the color/blackwork pattern that goes into the area, but most people use it to help with keeping track of a pattern/counting like SheWhoRoars mentioned. It's also used by people who do surface embroidery to transfer patterns to the fabric.

Badgersensei marked her(?) pattern every 5 stitches, but lots of people draw in lines to grid it like a pattern (10x10). It just takes a lot more ink. My mom does this and I just order the pens on ebay for about $1 each from China/East Asia. Some people alternatively use thread to grid their fabric. Sometimes you can even find aida with grids already drawn or sewn in. It can save a lot of time to get this, but I'd double check it's correct before using.

My mom's current stitch using grid lines.

Pre-grid aida I got from China. Edit: I think Zweigart and DMC may offer there own version. Look for Easy Count or Magic Guide aida.

I honestly don't usually use a pen to mark out patterns. But this is a bit more complicated than a straight forward pattern. (and yes, I am female. Hear me roar. XD)

Hey everyone, sorry for my lack of activity. I was gone on vacation since June 29th, I had fun exploring Canada(Woot Via150!) and I couldn't get the forums to work on my phone. But I'm super excited to start working on this  I was just wondering did everyone(not including the blue chicken which was really cool) just use the colors suggested in the pattern?

I hope you all are doing well and I look forward to seeing your progress

I did mostly, but I didn't have one of the colors so I picked the next shade that was closest.

Apologies for not doing this yesterday, everyone - I have a terrible head cold and I haven't been totally with it for the last 24h or so! :o

Anyway, design number two is...

YOSHI'S MAILBOX!

Here is the KGChart file provided: Yoshi Mailbox STH

Now, if you haven't finished the Stardew Valley part yet - DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! I haven't even bloody started, thanks to stuff going on for me last week! I'm going to start it now while my head doesn't feel so full of jelly, and also start the Yoshi one too - I'll alternate between them, I think. They aren't large patterns, so shouldn't take any time at all to work up!

The next pattern will be selected on Sunday 20th August - can't wait!

Woo! New pattern! Spent most of the time prepping while watching GoT and was able to get a little bit of stitching in. My carpal tunnel's been acting up, so i'm going to do more smaller sessions after work than longer sessions. I got a little bit of work done though! XD
