I've never stitched with varigated... when I stitch, I'll do a row of the half stitch and then go back with the other half (so it's more of an assembly line of stitching), rather than make one x, then another, then another (does that make sense?). For varigated, do you have to do it the x way?
Well you just described exactly how I did it (with the half stitches). Because I did it that way it means there are some places where half the stitch is red say, and the other half is yellow for half a row. This wouldn't happen so much if I did one x at a time. You do have to make sure to stitch in the order you want the colours to change. Normally I would try to minimise the thread used by doing charmanders tail, and then moving onto the body, but that would make the colour distribution different.

Ooh my current big project should fit in this category! I won't be able to submit it for the challenge until the end of the month though because it's a present for someone and I don't want them to come across it online somehow.
Looking great, folks! I don't know if I'll be able to get anything else done while I am concentrating on the charity square but stranger things have happened...
Current projects:
Leftover swap gifts
HP House Scarves
Secret of Mana charity square
Vid game advent calendar
icedragonj, that's a fantastic Triforce! The variegated floss was a perfect choice. I'm amazed you managed that backstitching so neatly with waste canvas! It's also very cool that the Gen I starters work out so that their colors match the iconic colors of the three goddesses, along with the attributes of the Triforce pieces, so perfectly. A+.
rbaron, I LOVE IT, and obviously Leaf is going to kick both their damn tails (though we can let Blue have the championship for five minutes before she comes in to steamroll him).
Mostly hibernating here. Find me on Twitter @rmdcade.

Thanks, I'm flattered I am glad the duality is noticable. For the backstitching, I didn't use waste canvas for the triangle outline. For those I just measured out the triangles with math, and then pinned it and tried to stitch in a straight line. I used waste canvas for the words though, and some of the fonts that were supplied for a previous challenge.
