That is probably the best way to go Monkeypeaches. Some people are better at making the patterns then others. But yeah, 96x96 is what it should be. I suck at making patterns, I admit it. I could never make some of these fantastic patterns that others can do. So find a screen shot you like and then use other people to help you make the pattern! There are a few that would definitely help out, especially since it is all for charity.

Absolutely! I've made a bunch of patterns for this quilt, can't remember how many but it's 10+. Since I don't have time to stitch a lot of squares like I want to, I try to help by making patterns. I'm sure we can help you!tnitnetny wrote:There are a few that would definitely help out, especially since it is all for charity.

I'd be happy to help make patterns for people as well.

You guys are all amazing. I'm really just stubborn about wanting to make my own pattern. I have so many creative ideas floating around in my head for patterns that I want to make. I either have to let go of the perfectionist side of myself and let other people help, or keep getting frustrated by the whole thing!

I'm down to two colors left for mine and they are huge blocks of color. I stopped messing with this so I could do the challenge this month (I really shouldn't have participated cause I have so much stuff to do but I loved my idea too much not to do it).

Re: Charity Quilt(s) 2013
Ok guys, I've got some questions for ya! This actually has nothing to do with the charity quilt and more to do with general pattern making. I definitely think that one of my problems is that I want to do small(ish) projects that don't take too long b/c I'm impatient, but then I also want to choose complex pictures with a lot of detail, which are usually quite large and don't scale down well. I don't think it's that easy to blend the two. In addition to that, I think it's super annoying when a picture that seems to have a solid outline/border and then that outline turns into a bunch of different colors in a pattern. Then when I try to make the outline all one solid color, the pattern definitely loses some of its depth. Soooo, getting to the point already. Would you guys stitch up a pattern just the way it imports into KG or spend hours cleaning it up so you're not switching colors every other stitch?blackmageheart wrote:Absolutely! I made an awesome looking pattern using one of my favorite pictures, but I'm nervous of switching colors so many times. Would you guys clean this pattern up at all or just stitch it as is? Please impart your wisdom!

i usually switch all the outline colors to the same shade - as long as they aren't used elsewhere is the picture

Also, around the edges I would remove some of the stitches. For example around the top left of the wrench you see the light gray squares? Change them to the background color. Just easy fixes, not anything too big. It actually turned out well.

Re: Charity Quilt(s) 2013
I usually edit the outline so it's not blurry and then I'll go through and look at the colors and see if any of them can be substituted for other colors already in the pattern to eliminate needless extra colors (specially with the ones that are a small stitch count compared to the picture). I'd probably trade all those grey stitches in the skin for the main skin tone or skin tone colors that are around them because I think it looks rather weird to have a bunch of greyish stitches in skin tone.
Are you editing your picture in paint or some such beforehand? Sometimes you can weed all that out before you put it into KGStitch. Also, make sure to save the picture as a .png as that usually helps. Last, but not least, since you do need to stitch every part of the 96x96, I recommend finding a nice background color for her because stitching all that white is just going to be...extremely annoying!
