I know that the concept for this said no Mario or Zelda, but I've been looking at the suggestions, and while I like a lot of them, maybe some people don't. If we randomly pick a game that only a few people like, the challenge won't be as fun. If we pick a more mainstream game like Mario (maybe a specific one, like Mario 3) or Zelda or Pokemon or Final Fantasy (again, specific games for each) there is a better chance that everyone will like them and have fun. We would have to have a requirement that it be a NEW pattern or new concept, including but not necessarily something funny. They can be the same old sprites, but in a new situation. What do you think? My suggestions for this line of reasoning are:
Mario 3
Zelda LTTP
Pokemon 4th Generation games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold/Soulsilver, Ranger, Mystery Dungeon)
Final Fantasy 1 or 2

Just my 2 cents. (More like 10 cents)

While I agree, and would fully support Mario 3, I figure no matter what game we pick, some people participating won't be familiar with it. Part of the challenge would be to become familiar with a new game, and I wouldn't mind doing some internet research to find a character or scenario that I like.

By trying to satisfy everyone, I feel like we could run the risk of losing the point of a "challenge."

It is, after all, only for a month, and if it doesn't have many participants, we would know to chose via a different route next time.

Also my ten cents.

A specific game/series that everyone decides on and agrees on seems more suited to a stitch-a-long in my opinion! (Might set one up if there's enough call for it.)

Also, I do feel like when you're presented with a game you don't know very well or maybe don't know at all, it's more of a challenge to make something from it *coughharvestmoonfarmcough*. And if you do know the game, the challenge lies in doing something other than the usual stuff with it! I do agree that it'll suck if you don't like the game, though. It's hard to sit and make things for something you don't like.
I do like the idea of the old sprites in a new situation - and I'm pretty sure I have something similar to that written down on the ideas list. I would definitely like to use it at some point, soon. :D

However, I do want to keep the delay of the start of this challenge to a minimum so I'm going to randomly pick a game out of all the suggestions at 00:00 UK time tonight. (So there's room for more suggestions!) What you all do with said game is up to you! :D

Well I'll joint he band wagon and also add my 2 cents even though BMH has already laid down the law ;)
- I would be easier if it's a game with sprites - not (only) 3d graphics - that way it's easy for people to find source images.
- Popular titles are nostalgic and more people may enter because of this but I agree with BMH - sometimes it's more fun/more challenging to use a game you know nothing about. I also did a swap with Harvest Moon and really enjoyed the project even though I'd never played the game.

more entry ideas:
Disgaea (series)
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance II
Earthworm Jim (series)
Metroid Fusion (or really any of the 2D entries in the series)

Since it was mentioned but not officially suggested, I'm suggesting Harvest Moon. Also Ecco the Dolphin and Animal Crossing.
