Part 1 of 3, based on Paul Robertson's Water Bros design, this design is 32" x 20", created on 10-ct canvas using DMC tapestry half-stitch.
64,000 stitches total, this design took me 14 weeks to complete, using a customised tapestry frame.
Using the KG-Chart file of the image, I exported it in as high resolution as possible, and exported it into a image viewer on the tablet. Originally I had the entire design on the chart, but after a while, I realised that the main "major" colour, the sky blue, was too intrusive, so using KG-chart, I deleted the colour from the design. The resulting chart was much easier to work with, and less noisy.
Taking a standard 60cm tapestry frame I replaced the original dowel with 90cm lengths of the same diameter. Attaching 6cm wide lengths of scrap canvas using upholstery tacks, I was able to create the frame to accommodate a design up to 85cm wide.
Once the other panels, Grass and Fire, are complete, I will frame all of them in the same style. For storage, the Water panel is going to live in two pillow cases affixed with twine, with a few mothballs inside to protect it from being attacked while in storage.
