I made a 4 inch framed Pikachu the other day. I got a whole box of cross stitching supplies, books, and mostly tons of thread from a friend of mine who's aunt passed away. There were a bunch of these mini frame hoops, so I thought I'd make some portraits for them. One of the books I got was Kooler's Encyclopedia of Needlework which is a huge, absolutely amazing book full of history, pictures, and techniques. The background around Pikachu is reversed scotch surrounded by blackwork. Yay trying new things!

That project looks great. I think I need to go to yard sales this summer to find an awesome book like that (I'm too cheap to buy one from a store). I never thought about matching Pikachu with blue, it really works.

I really love that reversed scotch stitch - makes me want to branch out, too!

This is something small that I did during my break from the Pokemon Gen 1 cross-stitch. Every now and then you just gotta get something small done to feel accomplished :)

The pickachu looks fantastic :) I love the backing and the blackwork.

The Starry night death star also looks great. Did you use varigated floss or just several colours?

RMDC- Actually they weren't as bad as I thought they were going to be! I read a few tutorials on how to work with metallic thread (http://www.better-cross-stitch-patterns ... -tips.html being my favorite) and I used the DMC floss instead of the generic metallic thread. After the fiasco of starting the Triforce of Bad*ssery with generic floss, I knew better @_@ DMC all the way from now on!

Pyper- I guess it could be a Death Star xD I used a technique called tweeding, which is using two colors at the same time for the moon. It makes for a nice varigated effect, and can help with gradients. It also really helped to keep the metallic thread from fraying.

I got bored once again, not only did I make my dragons, I was alone in the workshop all morning (and didnt want to do any of my actual work) so I poorly made a frame for them! Question is....do I paint it?
