I am in love with that Little Mermaid project.
Any chance you could share where the pattern is from? It is so simply lovely.

ETA: So I read more of your newer posts on how you did the Crystal/Dragon one. I am even more impressed! Do you mind if I do the Ariel one?
I really want to do this project for a friend! How freaking beautiful!

WOAH! Awesome work! I'm a sucker for Megaman and Mario, so those are my favs, loving the rest of course! I am in awe of your logging, thats the kind of detail thats beyond me ;) The quality of your stitching, the neatness of your backside, the detailed logs and your brilliant eye for colour makes you a legend of the cross stitching world, truely! :swoon: :clapping:

Dragon Warrior 3 - Dragon Trophy (ending picture)

Image

PATTERN:
112w x 140h pixels = 8"w x 10"h
Spoiler
note:
1/1/2013
Huh? this isn't good, just got through using my last thread of #402 from one skein, pull out floss from a new skein, start stitching, and the moment I get my first X made I notice an oddity, the colors don't match. The new one is slightly darker than the old one, yet both are #402. In dim lighting can't really tell, they look the same, but good lighting, the difference was clear. This I had used on the lower part of the dragon's wing, removed this first strand of very light mahogany, replaced with a strand from new skein after getting the wing tip and dragon's neck and head done, all fine now. Wasted 40 minutes of my time on this little incident, decided not to log in this detail under my stitch time since it is not part of the actual completed stitches, as with any other major mishaps where significant time was used towards.

1/3/2013
Dragon statue finished. Looks good, eh, at least on the front side, back on the other hand, well, lets say that I shouldn't have been cross-stitching when so very tired because compared to my other mid-large sized works, the stitches on this one are all over the place, long horizontal stitches running over top of my vertical ones, looks, well not terrible, just scattered.

1/4/2013
Spent over 3 hours stitching in much of the outer edge and top half of the crystal ball with what I thought were an okay selection of blues, this after I had put aside my first color choices because they looked like they'd be too saturated. Instead with these other colors the crystal looked washed out, very pale, urgh, @#$% this! Bad color mixes, crystal is very dull looking, this isn't going to work, hours wasted on this crap, I hate blue!

1/5/2013
After stitching in my original selection of colors to the bottom half of the crystal and seeing that they actually did work (at least much better than what I stitched above that), spent about 40 minutes removing those ugly colors, then finished the crystal up with the nicer hues. Ah, finally done with the blue nightmare. Time to go to sleep. :)

The colors are not perfect, crazy how there's barely any blues to match many of the hues from the NES palette, but gotta do what you can, find either the best match as close as can be possible or settle for something that even though not a close match looks good enough to say this'll work, its off, but looks very nice. I had the same trouble with this one as I did when cross-stitching Shadax's robe and hat from Solstice, that one also didn't turn out anything like the NES colors, but is one of my absolute favorites pieces. So, sometimes compromise is a necessary evil to create something good.

Unfortunately pictures can't capture the true beauty of this piece, seen in person, especially the crystal ball, the colors are much more vibrant than any of these images show. It ticked me off a bit (nothing new here) but now that its completed I am very happy with how it turned out. My efforts were well worth it and it was a perfect choice for my first cross-stitch of the year.

I think the colors you picked look perfect (even on that picture). You did an amazing job!

Strider - Hiryu (profile portrait)

PATTERN:

Spoiler
note: I worked on this project for the Portrait Challenge at Sprite Stitch. What can I say about it? Well, did it because I thought Hiryu looked bad ass. I also thought it'd be easy, and in actuality it was, just that I made it harder on myself near the end when starting on the last color #902. When I had initially tested that color to the other colors it was to share close space with I thought it was blending too much with them, so tried some other dark reds and garnets but none of them worked any better, in fact looked wrong. I got myself flustered as is typical of me when trying for perfection and thought I'd have to change the other two colors, namely the medium plum and red copper both to lighter tints, but still, I've used both of these colors before for other projects and they were the best match. So I went back to the very dark garnet and decided to keep stitching regardless of the too close blending, and well, as it turned out, I just needed to fill in a bit more and somehow the other two colors lightened up and stood out from this deep reddish floss. Ah...'a sign of relief'.

Wario's Woods - Birdo portrait

PATTERN:

Spoiler
note: Now here was an odd choice for me to stitch. Because of certain events that are currently making my life a not so fun adventure right now, but still wanting to continue stitching, and wanting to make another for the Sprite Stitch portrait challenge, I had to pick something small due to limited internet access (public library, McDonalds) and our living arrangements (in our car) and thought this one should be quick and fun to stitch. Worked on Birdo for 3 days, finishing her in a little over 7½ hours, and like all my other stitches, she's going up for sale right away (on etsy) in hopes that we can make enough from my cross-stitches to start our lives over again somewhere else.

Thank you. :)

Okay, since I decided to quit on the portraits, figuring 3 is enough, wanted to do something different but more recognizable to most than my usual stuff. A common, very well known character, Megaman. Only, not him. His helmet.

Megaman 4 - Megaman's helmet

Image

PATTERN:
140w x 112h pixels = 10"w x 8"h
Image
Spoiler
note: Of all things I looked at to cross-stitch for Megaman, this is the one I just had to do. It's simple, and while not a character, Megaman is so well known that his helmet even sitting alone is instantly recognized as being his.

My mom and I (and our dog) are in a very undesirable predicament--not going to get into details because others are involved in how this came about (family as well as some other individuals)--we are homeless (for the past couple weeks). This is actually our second time (first time was 3 years ago, this month). Thankfully we have a car so we aren't completely without. But because of trust in others (family again) and our love for something that's a big part of us (our dog), we had to make a choice, we were not going to get rid of our dog (you just don't throw away loved ones).

So, here we are, in the small town we've lived in for almost 3 years, homeless (we didn't have a dog last time, so this time its a little more challenging), jobless (this was the biggest mistake), and left wondering, what now (well, we keep on trying because even though life keeps on kicking us hard, we can take it!). We got some money (won't last too long), have resources for internet (the park, public library and Mcdonalds), plenty of places to use the restroom as well as to clean up (soap and water is provided everywhere, and hey, just because you're homeless doesn't mean you have to lose your dignity), as well as washing our clothes (laundromats). Trickest things of all, finding a safe place to park and sleep, and hoping you don't have to go to the restroom in the wee hours of the morning (everything closes early). Most uncomfortable part of it all, cramped car, and very cold nights (some nights have been below freezing), but we done it all before, though not to say we like it. So, when we knew we'd be without a place to live we had to leave behind many things, and then for those that we could, quickly sold (such as my mom's dolls, and my videogames), so everything we own now fits in the trunk of our car (mostly clothes, and blankets).

I wanted so much to keep my cross-stitchings, afterall I made them for meself, but unexpected things happen, well something you just have to make some changes however crappy they are, just to survive. I put my heart into these works of art, hundreds and hundreds of hours, all so I could put them on my wall with my game collection. When this new year had rolled in I had plans to reveal everything with some nice ass pictures, my gaming area, all my NES games and all of my large cross-stitch pieces framed and hung proudly displayed to make one beautiful ass setting. But that dream was dashed to bits. Everything is gone except for my stitchings.

I finished up my Tombs & Treasure cross-stitch in our car (the right side of the border around the sleeping girl), did Birdo in the car, and now with selling in mind, Megaman's helmet (currently at the library charging my laptop, took pictures of the finished piece, filled out some job applications online, and now getting ready to list this Megaman 4 cross-stitch up on etsy). Last time we were homeless I did a lot of reading (Forgotten Realms: Legend of Drizzt series), this time it's cross-stitching (so long as I'm able I will)...gotta have something enjoyable to do.
