Well, the new year has begun, and yesterday I started on my very first stitch of this year, something from Dragon Warrior 3. This is an image from the ending of the NES game, a dragon statue cradling a crystal ball. Its not a very large piece, less than 2000 stitches, once I ever frame it will make it to fit an 8"x10", but one I've been wanting to stitch since several months ago, but can only get one thing done at a time so the time for this one had to be when I felt it was time to do it, and so I planned it for the new year. I should have this one done within a few days.

Here's the pattern I'm working with (just put it into MS Paint, magnify, put gridlines on, there you have it):

January 1st-2nd, 2013:

All very light mahogany (#402) done:

So that's my progress so far, will try to get the dragon done by early morning tomorrow (I'll most likely be stitching much of the night). And then I'll be struggling to find just the right tones of blue (not easy, DMC sucks when it comes to blues [and greys]) for the crystal ball.

I love the Dragon Quest/Warrior series, good choice. I can't wait to see it finished.

It's really cool that you seem to pick a lot of those less popular games! :)
Current projects :
Out of commission after surgery until May.

Currently playing : Speed runs of Biohazard HD Remaster

Progress update:

January 2nd-3rd, 2013

All medium mahogany (#301) done:

For some reason, and no matter what setting I put it on, my camera keeps making the medium mahogany look a little more red than it's supposed to be. Still looking to get this dragon done before I go to sleep at sunrise or thereabouts.

Thank you! I love working on black aida. But it will have its limitations as some things won't look right, or have the right feeling if done on a black background, such as something cartoony or light-hearted, or if I wanted any black pixels to present themselves clearly, then I'd have to choose another background color, such as maybe a light blue material. But for the type of things I like to stitch, things of awesomeness or have a serious feel to them, or simply because in the game they are overlayed on black background, then this is the color material to use, and so far I'm sticking with it until I find something I really want to stitch that won't work well on it or get bored and need a change.

Another update:

January 3rd, 2013

Very light tawny done, dragon finished, now all I've left to do is the crystal ball:
Image

Not pictured, but my backside on this one looks terrible, its the first time since early last year that I've been disappointed with it. I was all over the place, and I think the lack of black spaces with this one being almost entirely one completely filled in piece threw me off, hey, but the front looks good. Still, makes me want to redo it, I'll see how I feel after I finish the crystal. I told myself this year my backsides would be even better than last year, I got off to a poor start.

Wow, wow, wow, wow.
I am in love with that Little Mermaid project.
Any chance you could share where the pattern is from? It is so simply lovely.

ETA: So I read more of your newer posts on how you did the Crystal/Dragon one. I am even more impressed! Do you mind if I do the Ariel one?

Its from The Little Mermaid game on the NES, took it from the title screen:

Thought it'd be perfect against a black background:

Go for it! :D
