I'm pretty pleased with how mine is turning out so far. The blue part is very tedious so I do a bit of that every now and then, rather than all in one go. But I don't have to concentrate so much when I'm doing big blocks of colour like that. I can just pop a movie on or something and crack on with it without having to keep my eye on the chart =]

I purchased 60 skeins for this project to start with, but I will need to buy more eventually when I start to run out. Especially that evil blue colour! I read online that with an 18 count piece of fabric you get roughly 3000 stitches per skein using 2 threads. (not sure how accurate that is but that's what I used when I decided what floss to buy).

KG-Chart tells me there's nearly 80000 blue stitches alone in this project, so I will need about 25 skeins of the blue colour alone to finish it. :swoon: (Assuming the above calculation is accurate)

The whole project is exactly 262144 stitches in total, so that is roughly 88 skeins. Something to bear in mind if anyone else wants to start this pattern.

3000 is only accurate if the stitches are close together. If not, 2500-2700 is more accurate. In your case however, the blue is packed together, so 3000 per skein should work just fine.
I actually had a project with red in it, (fairly close together) about 2900 something stitches, and bought 2 skeins. I ended up usining only one, but i stretched it to the limit (only 3 more stitches to go, barely any thread left, not wanting to start on new skein for just 3 stitches). Would've work better if I was more efficient at the start, but oh well, it worked out.

I, too, am certifying myself insane and think I want to take this on. I also want to add something... collage framing the inset screen shots around it, like on this pic:

I also plan to dye the fabric blue like I did on Epic Mario, and use corresponding colored fabric for the separate screen shots. I may start with the "Special" stage as a baby step into this enormous decision... gulp!

I'll be pulling for you funkymonkey! You did a great job with the Epic Mario pattern, so I'm sure this will come out awesome too!

Thanks!

I thought I'd post my first pattern to encourage me to follow through with this, and for anyone else who is as crazy as I am

These mini maps will be 224 x 168 stitches.

Mini maps? That's a foot wide on 18ct! What are you planning on using? 32ct evenweave? That's still seven inches per mini map. This is going to be a mind-boggling project!

Heh, see first sentence: certifiably insane.

I haven't decided yet; I think I will use 18 on on the "mini" maps and maybe something smaller on the giant one. I have been stitching single stitches on some 28 count evenweave for a project, and while tiny, it isn't actually impossible; I just don't think I want to do everything on something that small.

D'oh! I want to do the same thing, with the mini-maps and everything. I'd been trying to put the whole picture into my stitch program, but the program is too dumb; even though the background blue is all one shade it makes the edges gray-scale and about four shades of blue. :banghead: So I'll keep checking this thread... someone posted the Special World, maybe the rest will follow. And I apologise now, I'm at work, typing this on what is basically a potato with a keyboard, so if I've missed anything or re-stated anything, I apologise.
