I was actually torn where to post this, as only two of the three projects I have here are needle-related. This was waaaay before I even thought about working with Aida and thread - basically, I was going off what I learned in middle school, where we made a yarn and plastic canvas bookmark. The third of the pieces is something I did in a chigiri-e class. I've done nothing with chigiri-e since. All three of the pieces are Monster Hunter related.
The first piece is an attempt at mapping out one of my favorite areas, Forest & Hills. It's a map that's been on almost every MH game (It's been on every game except Tri and 3rd Ultimate, for the NA crowd, I think). I basically made my pattern by squinting at my PSP screen, counting the pixels. Probably took me at least 8 hours to fully map out. However, I didn't account for the size, and I didn't know how to join pieces of plastic canvas, so after only crafting one quadrant, the project fell through. I think I still have the pattern somewhere, might put it up here.
The second piece is a Gravios, as depicted by his illustration in the in-game Monster Guide. I really liked the tribal style of the monster illustrations, and Gravios was the only one that looked doable at the time. I didn't count pixels this time, rather eyeballing it, again looking at my PSP screen. I think it came out pretty good compared to
this, which wasn't a resource I had at the time. This I made for a friend for Christmas, I believe.
Finally, this is my first (and only) attempt at chigiri-e. I went for a Congalala this time, but without any of the more advanced techniques (and I had to do this within a few hours' worth of time, too), it's kind of sloppy.
I have one other, a Megaman yarn-stitch that I made for another friend (it's the standard Megaman sprite, on a plain background), but I don't have the picture for it around, I'm afraid.
