Sprite Stitch Board!

I am currently working my way through Hobbit and Lord of the Rings characters from a set of patterns I bought on etsy. (Unfortunately, the shop is no longer active so I can't really share the links to the patterns.) I intend them to be Yule/Christmas tree decorations but I've not quite worked out how to finish them yet. I sometimes get the Cross Stitcher magazine and they usually have a mini kit with them. A while back they had did a couple of projects with felt frames and I like that look as it's quite simple to do, but finding similar frames is proving to be difficult, so I may end up doing something else with them. I'll post some photos of the characters later and upload them - the weather is dreadful at the moment and I prefer to take photos outside as the lighting is better than inside.

That sounds cool. I'd love to see some pics of what you have so far and I agree that cross stitch looks and photographs so much better in natural light. Says the girl who usually gets motivated to stitch and take photos at 1 in the morning.

The first pillow one is a lot simpler than the second one, but if you want something in a frame, you can try getting cheap wooden hoops. I've seen them as small as 3" in diameter. If you don't like the wood look or color, you can wrap the outer ring in bias tape/fabric.

Thanks. I had thought about using the pillow method on the larger ones, but I've never come across the second method before. The felt frames I am talking about are ones similar to these - https://www.sewandso.co.uk/product/red- ... kit/994827, but there is only one site I've found where I can get them from separately without the cross stitch chart and thread and they are expensive for what they are. If they were sold in packs rather than singly, I wouldn't mind, but it would end up being a small fortune if I bought a frame for all the characters I have. I think a wooden hoop would be too heavy. I have made some smaller ornaments (some Star Trek and Star Wars ones) but if I choose that method I need some templates that would be big enough for them but haven't found one yet.

I have some photos of my stitching for this project now on my blog. I would insert them in this post, but I can't direct link from my hosting any more because it needs an SSL certificate to do so on most sites, whereas previously, I didn't need to have one. I've not made them up into the decorations as yet because I'm waiting to get the wadding (and will probably need to wash the felt before I use it because I bought it some time ago and wasn't able to keep it dust-free.) I also had to resize my photos because they were using up a lot of the storage space on my hosting.
