That is fantastic! Even the small wins count, so well done!Ally wrote:I won my very first short story competition! I only win bragging rights, not an actual physical prize since the contest was quite small, but someone judged it and said it was good and everything!

Congrats! Every win is great and especially so when it has to be judged.Ally wrote:I won my very first short story competition! I only win bragging rights, not an actual physical prize since the contest was quite small, but someone judged it and said it was good and everything!

I have a minor happy thing as well. I've been doing kendo since the beginning of April, and I'm loving it. I'm finally deciding that it's something that I would enjoy doing for the long-term, so I asked my husband if I could buy the uniform, which is a bit pricy. After a bit of discussion, he said yes. I'm excited to have found a sport that I enjoy doing, though I am a bit timid and get flustered when I have to actually strike someone. Heh...

I'm a quilter and am working through my UFOs (Unfinished Fabric Objects). I have 30 of 34 quilt backs done, so 10 years worth of unfinished quilts can get finished and out of my life! It's a pretty amazing feeling to finnnnnaaaaaaalllly be finishing them. YML!
Also, I moved to Seattle from Tucson. It's 54 degrees here today, vs 105-ish back home. YML!

Re: Happy Thread, or YML!
(Warning, this may end up sounding very convoluted!)
My boyfriend's mother just got back from St. Kitt's with a dog -- my boyfriend's sister's dog. Her name is Cousain (I think that's how it's spelled? I've seen many different variations xD) and she seems to have taken the trip all right. She was a little nervous when she got back to the house, but she seemed to get along all right with the neighbor dog. She'll be re-introduced to the family's collie and introduced to the other dog tomorrow. Fingers crossed, it'll go well and Cousain will be a good playmate for Maggie (the dog obtained while Cousain lived in St. Kitt's).
I'm just super excited that everything seems to be going smoothly so far, particularly after a long day of flying. Things are set up in the house so the cats have a place to escape to away from the dogs. This summer is definitely going to be an interesting one: by the time boyfriend's sister leaves for clinicals, the house will have 9 cats and 3 dogs! (The house normally has 6 cats and 2 dogs. I love it!)
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a Jade-kitty to harass.

Re: Happy Thread, or YML!
Had a nice tornado scare today. Luckily it decided to not stay on it's path that we were right in the middle of (both me at the house and hubby at his work half hour away). It touched town in the next town over in Speedway (we're close enough to it that the hubby will often say we're from there just because it's easier for people to visualize where we are than saying West Side of Indianapolis). They classified it as a small tornado but very dangerous for the amount of debris it was carry and flinging around and it was behind a rain wall so it was hard to keep track of.
Anyway, we're fine. It's the small things right!

One of those tornadoes touched down in my aunt's neighborhood. Her house is fine, but it was only a couple of streets over from her. Glad they missed you, too!!MeiTow wrote:Had a nice tornado scare today. Oh wow, glad she's alright! I've been there before too. That tornado that destroyed Martinsville in 2003 (I think) touched down on the roof of the factory across from where we lived at the time. Tore up their trees and parking lot next door and left us alone. So scary!LinkIsMyHomeboy wrote:One of those tornadoes touched down in my aunt's neighborhood. On a really great note...my husband just got a promotion and raise in his company. He's still being underpaid for his position but it's definitely a step in the right direction!
