ooo I hadn't thought of Matalan! haven't been in there for a while! I have a big Asda by me but I think they mostly focus on kids clothes... no harm in taking a look! I was thinking of going to TK Maxx to look for shoes, I've had some from there before, surprisingly good value and good products (their clothes are a different matter).blackmageheart wrote: Congrats Bex! Well done on the phone thing, just remember when you're on your way to the interview that you already got through that. As for what to wear, I don't know what you have nearby but you can get some nice smart clothes from the big Asda and Tesco stores, or somewhere like New Look or Matalan. All those stores have a good size range. I'd recommend you get a nice pair of smart dark trousers (the kind that are wide leg and have a stretchy waistband) and a colourful top. And some flat ballerina pumps too, because they are comfortable.
Drop me a PM when you can because I think I can help you!
Yeah, I don't want to go overboard, but I definitely need something!kuja.girl wrote:Some people dress to the nines when they interview. But I refuse to get a suit. So last time I wore a nice shirt, nice pants, blazer, and a pair of flats and it worked. I totally relate to your clothing woes! I can't balance on heels (and have large feet), and I am too tall for most pants (and as you put it, rather "huggable") so getting a nice outfit together at the last minute for me means some shopping luck!
Just do what you can and good employers will look beyond the clothes anyhow - they are looking for someone who "fits" not someone who over dresses
Skills and qualifications don't seem to make much of a difference these days...MeiTow wrote:Conga Rats Queen B! I am in your boat in all ways. I've been out of work since my early 20s (basically was fired from my crappy hourly gas station job for cash shortages because they refused to put security cameras up at the store and being right next to a major highway and having a nice little back road made it super easy for people to get gas and run without paying and the cashiers had to eat that cost). After that I just stayed home to raise my daughter because whatever job I could have gotten's paycheck would have just went to childcare now that the hubby was working. I'm looking to get back into the job market but I have no skills anymore. LOL! I also understand the clothing ordeal as well being similarly "endowed". LOL!
YES! Of course! Thank you for reminding meMeiTow wrote: Best of luck to you! Remember you are a Queen and queens get what they want!
RMDC wrote:Clothes design for women is a total obnoxious patriarchal crapshoot. Don't worry - even if your interviewer is some clueless dudebro who can always find his size pants anywhere he shops, he won't expect you to be cosplaying a high-powered corporate barrister. Like kuja said, they want someone who'll fit the environment.
Anyway, you know how to wield a needle if you need to fight your way out past a horde of ninjas!
Oh well, experience, definitely matters! I meant more about qualifications, there are some grades I wish I had never wasted my time on and done more on what I would've enjoyed rather then what i thought would be good for a career. :pMeiTow wrote:Seems to matter here Queen B. :\ All I ever see is "Entry level position. Must have 3-5 years experience." How is a position that requires five years experience "entry level"?! I've been turned down from more than one job because I only have a basic knowledge of Excel because I never use it and Outlook for the same reason although one email client is much like another and not that difficult a skill to master. :\
With the economy the way it's been there are way too many people needing jobs that companies can be very picky. *shrugs*
