SofaraStarfyre wrote:Welp, I guess it's time to post this since it's so close to happening.. My hubby and I are going to become home owners as of the 27th of this month.. This is the big project that I mentioned in the 2015 finished quilt squares thread... The house is still right in town were we live already and only about a 5 minute walk from our apartment. Our closing date in the 27th and we will be moving over the 4 days after that. This is our first and hopefully last house. Hubby is only about 18 yrs from retirement right now, even though he will likely work longer since he HATES sitting around, and he'd like to have the house paid off by the time he is able to retire.
Congrats on getting a house.

Minor happy thing, but a happy thing nonetheless. Last semester, I got to make some chapstick in compounding lab (I'm a pharmacy student, and so, we had a class to learn how to make some of the compounds not made by most manufacturers). It turned out simply fantastic. It was super moisturizing, and the flavors I chose made it smell like lemon sugar cookies. I decided then that I needed to keep using that recipe to make more chapstick, and my boyfriend agreed.
We got all the supplies ordered from Amazon a couple weeks ago, then the bf pushed for us to start making some, since he was running out of chapstick and using a stick I had left at his place. So we made it using regular kitchen supplies and a digital food scale (which was hardly accurate at all >.>). We made it on a larger scale, and I took note of the approximate volumes we used so that we could just use regular measuring tools next time. The new sticks turned out just right, and we get to be set on excellent, lemon sugar cookie chapstick for a while!
In case you're wondering about the lemon sugar cookie flavoring, it's bubblegum and lemon. Somehow it works super well together! But I like both flavors anyways and wanted to see how it would turn out. :3
Mishatu, that sounds awesome! My partner's mother occasionally makes unflavored chapstick, and I much prefer it to store-bought brands (especially after I started seeing articles about counterfeit chapsticks made with all kinds of unsavory ingredients). I need to nudge her into making another batch. I doubt I could convince her to make lemon sugar cookie flavor, unfortunately.

That sounds awesome! When we go out to Iowa to visit the father-in-law I pick up a local maker's chapstick from the creamery we go to because it works wonders and I love the flavors/scents. I sitll have one from two years ago that's starting to run low that is rose scented. I got one last year that's peppermint. My daughter and husband go through chapstick like crazy and I keep trying to get them to get this stuff. Haha!
Handmade chapsticks always seem to be the best I find.
Better flavours and scents too.
My school friend has just started her own business as such making chapsticks and pots of lip balm. Lovely flavours and quite reasonable prices for handmade too.

Cheltenham's, and my, first comic convention! I ran out of money pretty quickly! :p
My friends launched their first comic, my friend and local comic book guy had a great couple of tables, his partner sold some excellent cookies, despite not being there, she had to look after the shop. My friend and his friend launched a new company Big Punch Studios with a quarterly magazine of comics. I got several free two minute sketches (a special thing for those who kickstarter the festival) including a young looking by Lee Garbett. Nich Angels sketch of Cat and Meringue is my favourite though. My brother brought me a Spirited Away print by Mr Hope (whom he was almost squealing over, seriously never seen my brother that happy, he got a commission and a 2 min sketch from Mr Hope. He was a lot more nervous and shy meeting Lee Garbett though.)
I got a notebook with a hand painted cover of that big squishy guy from Big Hero 6, bit special so I'll keep it for the next dnd adventure.

My boyfriend got a job!! He's been unemployed for a while and he just got offered and accepted a really good position. He can even start immediately! This is going to remove a big stressor from our lives.
