Re: Happy Thread, or YML!
I'm glad we have a counter to the FML thread as I have a lot of things to be grateful for and I'm glad to hear that other people do to!
I finally have a job that's a career.
I can also afford to rent a nice place and buy some nice things for the first time in years.
I like my coworkers and enjoy my job.
I just adopted 2 birds (and am working on not being constantly worried that they'll get sick like my last bird) who crack me up.
I'm also on my 5th year post-cancer/tumor and have had no complications or problems (not that there was a high chance but I'm still very grateful)
:)

Congratulations, QB! That's wonderful!
kuja, I hadn't known that you were a cancer conqueror - that's awesome! And I've been enjoying the Facebook tales of the great intelligence and wisdom of your avian companions. Truly, they are models for us all.

Re: Happy Thread, or YML!
I was going to say something about QueenBex's post but I wasn't sure I understood it. So congrats? lol
And I will be posting an update about my two birds to FB soon (some of it is in the FML thread too)... they are pretty amusing but... well, dumb.
EDIT: if you don't have me on Facebook here's a photo of my two dumb-dumbs.
Thanks RMDC! It was a horrible and very stressful ordeal. I often don't tell people that it was "cancer" because it was a type that's highly survivable (over 90%) and only required an operation - no chemo or other treatments except for follow up examinations. Saying "cancer" scares people because we often only hear about cancer horror stories or about people surviving or succumbing to aggressive forms, but it can also be what I had: a very localized out-of-control growth that had to be removed with little chance of re-occurrence (crossing my fingers).RMDC wrote:kuja, I hadn't known that you were a cancer conqueror - that's awesome! Re: Happy Thread, or YML!
Sorry I got a bit frazzled last night, I shall explain;
A) I have been out of work for about 8 years because of mental health difficulties, right around the time I left home, I had a chat with my boss and we decided it was better if I just left, i've beeb on benefits ever since.
B) I have sent off an application for a marketing apprenticeship, to be honest I didn't think anything would come from it after years of dead ends, rejections and self deprecation getting in the way.
C) I checked my emails yesterday expecting spam etc. I got an email from a local college asking me to attend an interview next week for an assessment and literacy tests before they send the application on to the employer.
D) most people would think little of it, but seriously this is the closest i've been to a job in all this time! It gives hope! If it goes well then they'll help me send my cv on to poetential employers and of course the one I initially applied to. Even if I don't get any positions its still a leap forward!
E) the email said I had to reply by phone to confirm I was coming, I just did and i'm still shaking, it was a message system and for some reason to me thats worse then speaking to someone over the phone.
F) I have next to no smart clothes at all, I don't even know where to begin, and don't say the high street, needless to say I'm far too huggable for high street sizes :p
G) I gotta get some nice shoes too, I can't walk in there in me hiking boots no matter how comfortable!
H) I think i'll be alright at the interview, and its just a stones throw away from where my work related advisor is and she's lovely.
I'm losing it again....maths test? I need to practise my times tables! Do people wear coats over blazers? How many drinks can I have before I fall over? What size are my feet? I need to put some cash aside for the bus! Theres only a week to go!!! Why is a raven like a writing desk?????

Congrats Bex! Well done on the phone thing, just remember when you're on your way to the interview that you already got through that. As for what to wear, I don't know what you have nearby but you can get some nice smart clothes from the big Asda and Tesco stores, or somewhere like New Look or Matalan. All those stores have a good size range. I'd recommend you get a nice pair of smart dark trousers (the kind that are wide leg and have a stretchy waistband) and a colourful top. And some flat ballerina pumps too, because they are comfortable.

Drop me a PM when you can because I think I can help you!

Oh wow that's awesome QueenBex! I hope it goes well! And as lcockitt said, remember to breath!
Some people dress to the nines when they interview. But I refuse to get a suit. So last timeI wore a nice shirt, nice pants, blazer, and a pair of flats and it worked. I totally relate to your clothing woes! I can't balance on heels (and have large feet), and I am too tall for most pants (and as you put it, rather "huggable") so getting a nice outfit together at the last minute for me means some shopping luck!
Just do what you can and good employers will look beyond the clothes anyhow - they are looking for someone who "fits" not someone who over dresses :)
BMH gave some good advice too :D

Re: Happy Thread, or YML!
Conga Rats Queen B! I am in your boat in all ways. I've been out of work since my early 20s (basically was fired from my crappy hourly gas station job for cash shortages because they refused to put security cameras up at the store and being right next to a major highway and having a nice little back road made it super easy for people to get gas and run without paying and the cashiers had to eat that cost). After that I just stayed home to raise my daughter because whatever job I could have gotten's paycheck would have just went to childcare now that the hubby was working. I'm looking to get back into the job market but I have no skills anymore. LOL! I also understand the clothing ordeal as well being similarly "endowed". LOL!
Best of luck to you! Remember you are a Queen and queens get what they want!
