Summer Music kit - WIP

I got this Elsa Williams - Summer Music kit at Hobby Lobby to make for a friend. So far it's been slow going with all the color changes, so I'm posting to keep me on track with it. It also has lots of backstitching and details that I don't often do; I haven't sewn a kit in ages. Should be pretty though!

That's a beautiful kit! I have to admit, being relatively new to stitching, I'm partial to kits myself still (though I'm becoming more adventurous!), especially one of nature scenes.

4 days in, still feel like this is going slowly. Maybe I'm being hard on myself; I've been doing a lot of block color stuff recently so tying off after 4 stitches is tiresome.

Day 5: Thought I'd change it up and do the butterflies with backstitching today.

That's beautiful. I'm a musician and I think that the kit is just lovely. I must be a bad stitcher - I tend to do all of one color with lots of long thread between sections. I can't do the tie off after 4 stitches thing.

And how cute are those butterflies?

Oh there's plenty of stringing as well... I'm just trying to avoid it if it's longer than 10 stitches or so to keep it from getting too bulky.

Ok, here's the progress as of last night. It's been 2 weeks, but I've been out of town for part of it. I really want to get this finished by Friday, so you can hold me accountable :)

Also, for the record, I think this is the most tedious thing I've ever stitched. Potential stitchers be warned :)

Update:
Finished the rose and it's backstitching. I didn't realize how long the backstitching was going to take; I don't think I'll be able to finish by Friday :( I'll keep trying though!
