Fancy rat 6 month olds on a adventure!

Post by FreeNatureArts »

Hey everyone. I just started coming here a few days ago, and as you may see from my other topic. I wanted to document a project I'm working on, and I know some others may enjoy it =3. Now it's not the very best, and might have some canvas showing between the stitches ( I don't know if thats good or bad)But I must stress this is my very first Needlepoint/ cross stitch project.. Ever ^^; Yeah, I know a bit big for a start but if I'm making something that's going to take awhile. I'd like to make it worth it XD.

Anyway I'm making a three thread needlepoint tapestry of a American blue and Agouti 6 month old sisters portrait. Using a image I found online from one of my sister's friends. Both of them are classic Fancy rat colors. And are the founding breeds that makes the huge verity of rats we have today. The picture I'm using is of two Blue agouti's but I really wanted a agouti, so I'm using my imagination and changing the right rat. Into the Agouti. In this, I also found out I didn't have the funds at this current time to get all 35 colors. So it will be a 12 Bit version of the rats. Below

I'll try and update it daily. Unless I didn't do anything at all on it. But yeah, I hope you like it =D. And if you want to talk about anything. Feel free ^_^. I really loved seeing how this community reacts with one another. And already feel like a regular. Till the next update. Best of luck everyone!

This is the graph I'm using of the rats, the black marks are where I started but as I advanced to more stitches, I could see where I was without them. and stopped marking the graph.

And heres a close up. I started from the upper left and going till I hit the lower Right. Just like when you do paint by numbers and crochet stuff. But yeah, one ear and much of the light shadowed fur around it. The eye goes between the random looking Dark blues XD. But there is a mannor to the madness. One color at a time 8D.

This is the whole Canvas, I think the paper around it said it was 13X16? And I measured the picture to match, the background is unknown yet. But I want something Green XD

Not the greatest shot for a update, but my sister has the house camera right now for her trip to southbend. But here's a update from my webcam. one more eye to go before I can do the nose.

Webcam update, spent the morning working on the base of the ear and filling in the blank spots from before. The black lines to your right is the start of the next eye.

Rats are so cool, I'm glad you've have family with experiences of them. They can be so clean and caring and when you get really close. They can do so many amazing things. Some days I feel so long as I have rats I won't ever need a dog or a bird etc.. Though nothing beats my cat mitsy. She put's up with 11 years of my Drama Childhood and still loves me more then the world itself.. <3

But thank you so much, I'll be sure to post a update tomorrow if I work on it more. And I hope you have a good night =D.

I totally just got a fancy rat! He's an albino. We named him Jaque Gusteau. I couldn't bring myself to name him Remy so I went for the tubby chef guy instead. He's totally crazy though. Scaling the top of the cage like some abnormal spider rat.

Looks like you're making some good progress. Have you been picking all the colors your self?

If you ever need any help with raining the chef in from time to time or if he ever adventures to far. Or does something that seems odd, I'm open to notes =D. Me and my sis has been raising and breeding rats for the greater good of their health and that of their owners for the past 13 years.
Sounds like a handsome li'l spitfire though, I hope you have a great time together!.

Thanks a bunch ^^ I was progressing more today till I noticed I can't really start the muzzle without having one more color, or it'll be hard to tell it apart. So I'm picking up some dusk indigo from Hobby lobby today. Found the funds for it in my change XD.

To answer the colors question:
< Well.. I can't really afford to have a wide range of colors at this moment. And Since this is of two same colored rats but I want them each to be unique. I decided to use this as a "guide" but really build on it and create my own unique piece with them.. I've always loved experimenting with colors and hues and shadows. Ever since I was little. And now at 23. I can't stand doing something without adding my own thing to it or changing it completely into something new XD. It was the best improvise I could think of XD. A 12-bit Cross stitch with colors that caught my eye as great rat fur colors at the local hobby lobby.
