Motif No. 1

I'm doing this big project as a secret gift for my husband, which means I don't have my usual audience for showing my progress (and frustrations), so I thought I'd keep track of it all here.

I'm doing a cross-stitch of Motif No. 1 in Rockport MA (so called because it is supposedly one of the most painted and photographed spots in the world).. it was where we went on our first vacation as a couple.

It's going to be my biggest and most detailed project yet (I'm an occasional stitcher with tons of UFOs). It'll measure about 13"x18" when done and has a bajillion colors... okay maybe not quite that many, but at least 40 and in many cases mixing strands. The pattern is so cumbersome that I had to cut it into 4 pages... and dang those squares are tiny! (it's also made me realize I need reading/stitching glasses... turning 40 isn't fun!)

So here's 1 week of part-time stitching... obviously its part of the water. I'm sure once I get to the building the hubster will figure out what I'm stitching (we have a tiny house so I have to stitch around him in the living the room)

Thanks for letting me share :D

Wow, that will be really pretty. I'm sure the hubster will love it. :)

I've had a few hours of "free" time to work on this over the weekend. I look at it and think it's really coming along, but then I look at the chart knowing I have 4 more pages.. eek! Already told the man that he's not getting this for his September birthday, and Christmas will be a miracle. I calculated that it will take me about 80-100 hours to finish, and considering I get about 2-3 hours of stitching time a week, we're looking at a retirement present... 20 years from now! :)

I saw another post you made referencing Motif No. 1 and I had to look it up. I was instantly hooked! I hope you'll keep updating with WIP shots. :)
