Mario star tree topper

Inspired by
http://8bitheart.net/2013/12/04/diy-mar ... ee-topper/ I made a mario star for the top of my tree this year. I made it out of a star shaped decopatch box I picked up in Hobbycraft, filled it with a set of led tree lights and covered it in felt like in the link. The box came with star shaped candle holders to decopatch as well so I made four smaller stars to hang on the tree too
The star is attached to the tree with cable tie mounts and cable ties.

That's the best use I've ever seen for one of Hobbycraft's papier mache boxes, and certainly cooler than the examples that they tend to put in their promotional materials!
Absolutely fantastic, I love it.
