Sprite Stitch Board!

Ok, this idea is in its infancy, as in, I thought of it 10 minutes ago, but I'm really excited about it. As with most crafty things, my husband just doesn't care. He pretends to, for my sake, but I know deep down inside... so I will post here for you to get excited with me.

Anyway, here's my idea. I'd like to have a real view of what stitch colors will look like more accurately than what KG-Chart or PC-Stitch comes up with. Here's my baby:

What it has on there is a small pattern sample (labeled "old") compared with one color changed ("new"), an enlarged version, and the large version on black.

Potential, yes?

How will you have it work? And how will you determine "correct" colouration?

I like the idea, and I think it could be very useful

I'm using the DMC color chart that I worked on a while back viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5873

That chart should be accurate since it's an actual picture; at least the colors in relation to each other should look correct.

As far as implementing it.. I don't know yet how to import the pattern from a pc-stitch or kg-chart file. I know some programming but it would take more than I know at the moment to be able to do that. It's a work in progress for sure.

The husband and I have been talking forever so PC Stitch needs to link up with DMC and proper colour numbers! Thisis kind of a spin-off of that. I like it!

I think it's a worthy goal, but I'm wondering whether it's really possible since in order to have it truly be accurate, it would need to account for differences in performance and output of not just Macs and PCs but how different video cards render the colorations which can actually change from computer to computer and browser to browser. Have you tested your images in other browsers on your own computer? I know that holding it up on my iPad's Safari there are still subtle differences in color compared to when I view it on my desktop's Firefox.

Well, I think the goal would be for it to be showing the colors in as true of a relationship to each other as possible. That way, if your screen contrast is a little dark, at least the two colors will be off by an equal amount. You wouldn't end up with colors looking like very different shades on the screen, but nearly the same in person. Using this, they would maybe both look slightly darker than the real thread, but still nearly the same instead of misleadingly different. Hopefully that makes sense?

Would it not be easier, and more useful, to create an alternate color chart for each program? This way the diffrences betwen computers/monitors/video cards don't matter. You would have to pick an RBG value for each floss - using a high quality monitor that's properly configured - then input the new values. This is possible in PC Stitch using the Floss Editor.

Hmm, haven't heard of that option. I'll have to try it out!
