I'm 39 years old, and I had to buy reading glasses on Friday because of my stitching.
I was so self conscious about buying them, I would have been less embarrassed buying condoms.

Aww, don't feel bad! People over here are actually using reading glasses as fashion statements. They've shown up in all the High Street shops around here and seem to be flying off the shelves- even for the younger crowd!

Your other option is to get yourself a good magnifier, but it will cost more!

I have a magnifier/super bright light thing and it's great. I can clamp it onto a table next to the couch and it has a bendy arm thing. I also use it for removing splinters, both real ones from real people and pretend ones from baby dolls. Not so portable if you stitch in various locations, though. You *can* move it around, but you have to unclamp it and then find another spot to attach it.

Don't be ashamed of the reading glasses. It could be worse. They could be bi-focals.

I got Lasik about 8 years ago. Before that I was so blind I couldn't see 6 inches without corrective lenses.
Now it's just super fine print (especially on the cell phone), and changing from up-close to far-away back to back. My eyes are getting a little slower to adjust.
The glasses have helped so I can stitch and watch TV easier.

Alas, it's going to happen to us all. I am so not looking forward to bifocals. Oye!

I wear reading glasses with my contact lenses and I am 22! There is no shame in being blind!

I wore reading glasses when I was 14 and hated them. Then I didn't need them for ages and ages, until last year when I got some new ones. All they do is correct my astigmatism and help me to focus on things close up, eg stitching and print. This time I don't feel so bad wearing them. I don't know if that's because I'm older or that I just don't embarrass as easily as in my youth! But it helps if they are nice looking glasses, rather than the jam jars people used to wear in the past
