Companion Cube Stitch (from in game model)

Post by Laialda »

I have a very bad habit of not taking pictures of things I've given as a gift to people. So when I went to visit my fiancee last month I finally got a picture of stitch piece I designed just for him. He was quite in love with Portal when we first started dating (yes this piece is THAT old >.<) so I wanted to design something that honored the game but didn't look cross-stitch at first glance. I did this best by adding in that dreaded technique so many of us sprite stitchers avoid in our pieces....the back stitch! XD

Sorry for the quality, I swear it looked nice on my tiny screen when I was in Canada :(

I imported an in game picture of the cube and ran it through pc stitch to get the colors right instead of just using solid colors. The back stitching helps to highlight things well and from about 6 feet back it looks like a printed image, just as I hoped. :nod The only thing that bothers me still is how dark the image is, but the floss colors are limited so *shrugs* c'est la vie.

If anyone is interested in pattern I *think* I kept the printed version (since free PC Stitch wouldn't let me save it) and I can work on making a .sth & .pdf file of it to share.

Since it's not an actual sprite, I think the backstitch works great here. Actually, this is one of the few cross stitch pieces I've seen where I think it is even better for having the backstitching. Well done!

I've been wanting to do a WCC for a while, but haven't found the right pattern. If you decide to make a pattern from this and share it here, I'd be all over it. :)
