Mario Bros III Baby Blanket WIP

Post by MissKirby »

So I recently found out a girlfriend of mine is expecting and I found an 18ct cotton receiving blanket on sale at Hancock Fabrics, so I decided to make her a slightly off-beat baby blanket. She has told me that Super Mario III was her favorite video game as a kid, so I'm going with a Super Mario III theme. I've decided that I'm going to make the attached picture the center image, with the title directly underneath. I was thinking of also extending the checkerboard to take up the remaining space at the bottom because the blanket has a big square sectioned off in the center. There are also little blocks sectioned off around the square in the center, with about 4 inches between those and the edge, so I'm going to put the koopa kids, goombas, bricks, etc in the smaller blocks and if I have time, I'm going to stitch something in the center of those 4 inches. I'll post updates over the next 9 months! :D

This is a cool idea. I'm curious to know which technique you're going to use to put the image on the blanket? Are you going to cross stitch it? Knit it? Crochet it? Bop it?! Looking forward to seeing updates and Good luck!

This sounds like a great (complicated though!) stitching project- can't wait to see how it looks! Please post lots of WIP shots!

I'm cross-stitching it. I've gotten the 3 and the shadow outlined. My school has been preventing me from working on it as much as I'd like. I should have enough time to work on it more this weekend and I'll try to get some pics posted. :)

I actually made some time to work on this tonight. Here's update the first, with many to follow! :)

This is actually work spread out over 3 evenings. For the most part, I've been doing it while I do the laundry because I can still concentrate on it when people bug me at the laundromat. :peach

So I decided just to have the "3" in the right corner and start work on the picture. Luckily I measured it all out once again just in case and I had apparently miscalculated when I made the pattern. Either way, going to start posting up pages to the pattern as I finish them (41 pages total including the color chart o.O). Start looking for those in the pattern forum. I finally got the blue unravelled and plan to start stitching on the bottom first tomorrow evening. Luckily my schoolwork has kind of eased up so expect more frequent updates! :D

I'm going to have an update posted tonight after I'm done for the night. I haven't gotten a whole lot done on it, but this weekend starts my vacation at home, so I plan on getting a lot accomplished. :D

I did re-edit the pattern though, so if anyone wants to be working on it, or wants to make any modifications to the pattern, here is the thread it's located at:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3231

I've made patterns for most of the koopalings and quite a few of the smaller blocks as well, so I'll try to get those posted also this evening. :)
