His/Hers Pacman Towels

Post by stacymckenna »

I've been doodling with sprites on dishtowels lately, but I just finished a pair of fingertip towels designed for cross-stitch. I've got the fingertips up at Etsy for now, and have sold several of my friends sets of dishtowels as well. Thanks to Sprite Stitch and [Sprite Stitch-recommended] The Spriters Resource for all the help in patterning!

I've now got patterns/towels waiting for some Mario sets as well. I figured a dishtowel set of "Heroes" and "Villains" from the NES Super Mario Bros might go over well... ;)

In addition, my boyfriend's caught the bug this month as well. In helping me research patterns (he's the gamer, I only speek geek), he fell in love with the "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" pattern posted on Sprite Stitch some time ago [he has named the piece "The treachery of pixels"], and is now making his own. He's enjoying the cross-stitch process so much he may never go back.

Cats are awesome, just not when you are cross stitching.

Thanks!

Yes, the black is back stitched. I actually did the main stitching on the dishtowels using 6 strands of floss (separated and then recombined so it lays nicely instead of looking like rope) over 10-count waste canvas, and then used a 2-strand back stitch for the black. The hand towels are 3 strands and 1 strand, respectively. I typically hate back stitching (it's so tedious in most patterns, trying to make things look neat and tidy when you're coming up in holes that have already been stitched through 4 times or more...) but since it's just around the outside on these, I find I don't mind it. And the back stitching makes the sprites stand out so much better!

I really wish I could find someone making the hand towels in black - it would look so much better on a black background, I think. Sadly, the industry is focused on grandmothers, so available aida products tend to be lots of pastels. One of my friends suggested I dye some black before I stitched them (including a dishtowel so I could stitch Pong in white) and I just laughed at him - I may be crazy, but I'm not masochistic! ;)

I've got friends asking for towels with Hello Kitty on them now. If anyone's got good patterns no more than 20x20, I'd love a copy!

Hmmm... My Hello Kitty patterns are bigger than that, but if you still need them just let me know. (you can find a sample here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1433&p=9113#p9113)
